A career criminal was arrested for breaking into his own mother’s home through a dog door and fatally stabbing her when he couldn’t find anything of value to steal.

John “Jake” Aylor, 37, has been charged with first-degree murder during a burglary and armed burglary for killing his mother, Julie Aylor, 64, during a home invasion.
Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said John Aylor broke into his mother’s residence in Tampa, Florida, at around 4:30 a.m. on Monday.
According to authorities, Aylor had a long history of unlawfully entering his mother’s home, which according to Chronister, he has done on “several occasions.”
“He will break in in the middle of the night and steal whatever he can get his hands on,” the sheriff remarked.
Chronister noted that Julie Aylor had been the primary custodian for John’s 10-year-old daughter since she was born, as her son’s been “been in and out of jail since 2003.”
“She’s been the person who his daughter can rely on as her guardian, as the person who makes sure that she has the basic essentials in life,” he said about the slain grandmother.
Chronister said that John was enraged when he broke in found nothing valuable to steal inside the house, so he grabbed a knife and entered his mother’s room. They argued and he reportedly stabbed her once in the chest.

His 10-year-old daughter and the victim’s 16-year-old granddaughter, who were home sleeping at the time, woke up to their grandmother shouting for help.
“She’s now begging her son, the very person who just fatally stabbed her, as she’s dying, and pleading for him to help her,” Chronister detailed.
“‘Jake, help me. Jake, help me.’ That’s what these poor children wake up to last night. She’s panicking. She’s dying. She needs help, desperately.”
Julie crawled into her elder granddaughter’s room for help, and the girl 911. Both police and paramedics rapidly responded, but Julie was pronounced dead at the location.
John Aylor fled before the officers arrived, but he was caught less than 24 hours later on tip called into police.
“Today, we have taken a significant step towards justice with the arrest of the individual responsible for the tragic and violent stabbing that took the life of an innocent woman,” Chronister remarked in a statement.
“Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the victim’s family during this challenging time. We remain committed to ensuring that those who commit such heinous acts are held accountable.”
He said that John is a drug addict that has been arrested over 20 times since 2003, with charges including grand theft of a motor vehicle, felony petit theft, and possession of a controlled substance.
He is currently locked up at Hillsborough County Jail where he will remain without bond.

In another incident, an Ohio man stabbed both his parents in their home after his mother refused to let him stay over.
Kenneth Mortimer, 40, became enraged after his mother, Barbara Mortimer, 75, told him that he wasn’t allowed to sleep over in their family home last week.
As the argument escalated, she told her 75-year-old husband, Kenneth Mortimer’s father, to call the 911 so they could get their son some psychiatric help.
That’s when Kenneth snatched a kitchen knife and began stabbing his parents as they sat on their couch.
Barbara Mortimer escaped out the front door, but her son reportedly chased her down and dragged her back into the house, where he stabbed her many more times.
The Green Township Police Department stated that officers and paramedics were dispatched to the Cincinnati home just before 4 p.m. on Friday.
They found Kenneth Mortimer’s parents covered in stab woulds, but he was nowhere to be found.
Barbara was killed in the attack, but her husband survived and was taken to UC Hospital with serious injuries.
Police were able to track down and arrest Kenneth Mortimer in Cincinnati, and he confessed to stabbing his parents.
He’s currently cooling his heels in Hamilton County jail, awaiting charges of murder, attempted murder, and felonious assault. Mortimer is being held on $2 million bond and his first court hearing is scheduled for August 20.
