A Florida woman who dialed 9-1-1 on herself during an attempted car theft claimed she wanted to commit the crime “legally.”
Florida woman reports her own crime
Because all crime is seemingly stranger in Florida, law enforcement officers responded to a call from a woman at a car dealership who said she was trying to steal a vehicle, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) announced.
Christy Lee Turman, 37, reportedly informed the police that she was in the parking lot and wanted to report her criminal intentions to ensure she could “do it legally,” a spokesperson from the department stated.
“I’m trying to steal a car that’s not legally mine,” Turman told a 9-1-1 dispatcher on the phone. “So y’all gotta come make a report. I’m reporting this.”
Upon arrival, deputies discovered Turman getting out of the driver’s seat of a stolen Toyota Corolla.
Body cam footage from one of the responding officers shows the female suspect standing in the car dealership parking lot with her hands behind her back.
An officer is seen pointing a gun at her before confiscating her phone. Another officer later handcuffs Turman.
Turman explained to the police that she was “being trained in a game of Black Ops to steal a car, but called 9-1-1 in attempt to make her carjacking legal,” the spokesperson added.
The would-be carjacker was subsequently arrested and charged with trespassing, according.
Truman has long criminal record, including charges for petty theft, disorderly conduct, battery, and drug possession.
She was also arrested for home invasion robbery twice in 2005 and once in 2006, as per inmate records.
Truman is still behind bars and being held on a $5,000 bond as she waits for her court hearing on June 18.
Florida woman swims for freedom
Meanwhile, another bizarre incident in Naples, Florida, involved a naked woman who jumped off a public pier to evade the authorities.
The Naples Police Department received several calls during the afternoon of Memorial Day about a pair of exhibitionists involved in sexual activity behind the pier’s locked gate.
Allyssia Razo, 20, and 23-year-old Zadok Westfield were caught in the act when officers arrived.
As they hurried to dress, Razo moved to the pier’s edge and jumped into the water, ignoring commands to stay put.
Westfield, completely naked when police arrived, remained at the scene while his date swam for her freedom.
He explained that they had swum to the pier’s end intending to jump off but ended up getting it on instead.
A witness reported to the police that she was on the beach with her four minor children, when the kids pointed out that Razo and Westfield naked on the pier.
“Her minor children were asking questions about what the subjects were doing,” the police report detailed.
Razo managed to make it to the shore, but was taken into custody by beach patrol as soon as she got out of the water.
Razo and Westfield face charges of trespassing and disturbing the peace. Razo was also hit with an additional charge of resisting arrest without violence.
Both were taken into custody and released on bond the same day.
Florida man gets fruity
In yet another wild Florida incident, a man was detained by police after allegedly chucking mangoes at his neighbor because he “thought he was gay.”
Charles Oliver Lovekin, 61, reportedly pitched two mangoes and a rock at his neighbor, a local news station reported.
The altercation reportedly began when Lovekin wanted to discuss a mango that had fallen onto his neighbor’s patio from the tree he owns.
Lovekin reportedly became enraged and started calling his neighbor obscenities.
That’s when he threw two mangoes; one missed, but the other hit the neighbor in the chest. He then threw a rock, which the neighbor managed to duck away from.
When police showed up, Lovekin reportedly admitted, “I threw the mangoes at him because I thought he was gay.”
He added, “I felt uncomfortable by the way he was looking at me, so I threw the mangoes and rock at him.”
The victim, who is married to a woman and has children, feared for his and his family’s lives during the incident.
Lovekin was put into handcuffs and charged with a third-degree felony with evidence of prejudice, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and battery causing bodily harm.
He was also hit with a first-degree misdemeanor charge with evidence of prejudice. Lovekin is still reportedly being held on a $15,000 bond.
Everything is decidedly weirder in Florida, especially the criminals.
