An illegal Cuban national allegedly decapitated a Dallas motel manager with a machete in front of the victim’s wife and son before kicking his severed head like a ball, according to law enforcement.
Worker uses machete to decapitate boss
Authorities said 37-year-old Yordanis Cobos-Martinez got into a heated dispute with his manager, 50-year-old Chandra Nagamallaiah, inside a room at the Downtown Suites motel on Wednesday morning.
The clash began around 9:30 a.m. while Cobos-Martinez and another worker were cleaning, according to an arrest affidavit.
Investigators said that Nagamallaiah told the two not to use a broken washing machine.
The situation escalated when Cobos-Martinez, who is an illegal immigrant, grew furious that the manager used another motel employee to translate instructions instead of addressing him in Spanish.
Surveillance video allegedly shows Cobos-Martinez storming out of the room, pulling out a machete, and attacking Nagamallaiah.
The manager attempted to flee to the motel’s office where his wife and son were present, but the suspect reportedly pursued him.
Witness Stephanie Elliott told WFAA she saw the horrific machete assault unfold before her eyes.
“He just kept hitting him and hitting until he decapitated him,” Elliott said. “I could not believe that anybody would do another human being that way.”
Police said the manager’s family tried desperately to intervene, but Cobos-Martinez continued the brutal killing until Nagamallaiah’s head was completely severed.
Investigators allege the suspect then kicked the head “like a soccer ball” into the parking lot twice before tossing it in a dumpster.
Police found the suspect still holding the machete
Multiple witnesses dialed 911, and responding officers located Cobos-Martinez a short distance from the motel. He was covered in blood and still clutching the machete.
According to reports, he admitted to police during a video-recorded interview that he murdered his boss.
Paramedics later declared the Nagamallaiah dead at the scene.
The suspect’s immigration status quickly drew scrutiny. An ICE spokesperson told The Post that Cobos-Martinez had been in the custody of Enforcement and Removal Operations at the Bluebonnet Detention Center in Anson but was released on Jan. 13 because Cuba refused to take him back.
“This barbaric criminal was released because Cuba would not accept him because of his criminal history,” the spokesperson said.

“Cobos-Martinez allegedly used a machete to behead a merchant he had an argument with in front of the merchant’s spouse and child.”
“Reportedly, Cobos-Martinez then kicked the head of the victims ‘around like a soccer ball,’” the spokesperson added.
“ICE has lodged the detainer with the Dallas County Jail, where this criminal illegal alien is being held.”
Court records show Cobos-Martinez is charged with capital murder and is currently being held without bond.
The violent illegal immigrant’s rap sheet spans several states. In 2018, he faced an aggravated assault charge in Harris County, Texas, but ultimately pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor assault and was sentenced to a year in jail.
While awaiting trial, authorities discovered he was also wanted in California for carjacking, false imprisonment, and failure to appear, leading to his extradition.
A year earlier, in 2017, Cobos-Martinez was arrested in South Lake Tahoe after attempting to carjack a young woman while completely naked, according to KRNV.
The gruesome slaying in Dallas was not the only machete-related violence reported recently.
Mom stabs young son in shower
Police in California arrested a woman accused of attacking her own son with a large knife while they were in the shower.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a home in Carmichael on Angelina Avenue around 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 18.
Officers arrived to find a man restraining the suspect while a 10-year-old boy suffered from multiple cuts.
Sgt. Amar Gandhi told reporters the weapon resembled a machete. The woman, identified as 41-year-old Anna Veres, was taken into custody.
The child was rushed to a hospital for treatment of his wounds. Gandhi explained, “There were several wounds, so hard to say if they were full-on stabs. There were several slashes and, again, both suffered multiple wounds.”
“But fortunately, some of them may have been on the hands and arms and torso,” he added, noting that the father also suffered injuries while stopping the assault.
Authorities said both victims are expected to recover. Gandhi added that investigators are still determining what led to the shocking attack.
“Was she under the influence of something? Is it mental health? Is it just pure evil? I honestly don’t know right now,” Gandhi remarked.
“She’s going to jail. She’s gonna have to sort out whatever demons she has in there and hopefully be held accountable.”
Veres was booked at the Sacramento County Main Jail on suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon, felony corporal injury to a child, and corporal injury to a spouse. She is being held without bail as the investigation continues
