An Oklahoma dental assistant, Cody Allen Stolfa, is accused of filming himself assaulting patients while they were sedated for surgery.
Dental assistant arrested for horrific crimes
The shocking video evidence emerged while he was employed at Central Oklahoma Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Associates in Stillwater, according to police reports.
Stolfa, aged 35, was initially arrested back in July after a video from 2021, reportedly discovered on the dark web, made its way to the FBI.
After further investigation, detectives unearthed countless photos and videos that allegedly showcased him engaged in numerous acts of sexual misconduct, police stated on Friday.
The Stillwater Police Department recently presented fresh findings to the Payne County District Attorney’s Office, culminating in the identification of 15 additional victims beyond the original case, with six of them discovered to be minors.
SPD noted all victims had been positively identified and personally informed about the case.
According to Laura Thomas, the District Attorney for Payne County, it was Australian authorities who stumbled on the case first.
A disturbing video depicting an unconscious patient being assaulted came to their attention and after being reported.
Using facial recognition technology, they pinpointed Stolfa as the perpetrator and alerted the FBI and SPD.
Dental assistant assaulted minors
Court affidavits outline details of Stolfa’s alleged actions, which reportedly include “sexual assault, abuse, battering, and/or sodomizing” 16 male patients, some as young as 15. The incidents took place over just three months in 2021.
Disturbingly, none of the victims were aware of what had happened to them until authorities informed them.
Authorities also revealed Stolfa filmed himself committing acts of “crimes against nature” involving an animal.
Detectives found more than 10,000 files stored on his devices, totaling a shocking 3.2 terabytes of exploitative material.
These ranged from images of very young children to adults, and reportedly, Stolfa shared these with others online, including someone in Stillwater.
Stolfa’s connection to the surgery center was brief—he only worked there from June to September 2021 before being dismissed for poor performance.
Despite clinic protocols requiring three people in the room during sedation procedures, Stolfa allegedly found ways to be alone with patients.
Videos, according to investigators, were often seconds long, presumably to avoid detection.
Management at the clinic claimed no knowledge of these alleged crimes and have assured their full cooperation with ongoing investigations.
Stolfa remains in Payne County Jail without bond, charged with a slew of crimes including 10 counts of sexual battery, 5 counts of forcible sodomy, 6 counts of child exploitation, 4 counts of clandestine recording, counts of sodomy with a victim under 16, and 1 count of lewd acts with a child.
Dentist sentenced for sexually assaulting staff and patients
This case bears haunting similarities to another recent incident involving an Alabama dentist, Joseph Clarence Cox, who received a staggering 180-year prison sentence for sexually assaulting staff and patients earlier this year.
The 44-year-old physician was convicted earlier this year of raping, sodomizing, and abusing eight former staff members and three patients during his tenure at Gadsden Dental Clinic.
Cox’s arrest in April 2021 came after a Gadsden Police investigation revealed a troubling pattern of improper sexual conduct.
During his trial, victims recounted harrowing accounts of sexual abuse, with some incidents shockingly taking place during active dental procedures.
Before his harsh sentencing, Cox had been free on bond after an earlier arrest stemming from high staff turnover at his clinic between 2020 and 2021.
Searches conducted at both his clinic and residence unveiled substantial evidence, leading to numerous charges.
The court heard multiple testimonies from victims and former staff, some detailing allegations of rape and sodomy during business hours.
Two separate patients also testified about unwarranted sexual contact while under his care.
This wasn’t Cox’s first brush with the law. Years earlier, in 2012, Cox faced allegations of inappropriate behavior at another dental practice.
A former staff member claimed he slapped her behind, leading to charges of harassment to which Cox ultimately pleaded guilty.
He was fined, placed on probation, and had his dental license suspended for six months.
Judge George Day didn’t hold back during sentencing, ensuring Cox’s prison terms would run back-to-back, stating that each victim deserved justice on an individual level, not collectively.
