A Florida man allegedly stabbed his grandmother 11 times on Mother’s Day after a simple request to help carry groceries inside erupted into a bloody attack that left the elderly woman fighting for her life.

Authorities said the violence broke out Sunday afternoon inside a home on 52nd Street in West Palm Beach.

According to investigators, 29-year-old Keo Nottage turned violent after his cousin returned home with groceries for a planned Mother’s Day dinner.

Police said the cousin asked Nottage to help bring the groceries inside. Instead, Nottage allegedly responded with a chilling warning.

“Someone is going to die today,” he allegedly said, according to WPEC-TV.

Investigators said Nottage then walked into the kitchen, grabbed a knife, and attacked his grandmother. Witnesses told police he stabbed the woman 11 times.

The West Palm Beach Police Department received a 911 call around 1:26 p.m. from a relative reporting the stabbing.

When officers arrived at the house, they found Nottage fighting with his cousin outside the residence.

Authorities said the cousin had attempted to intervene during the attack and protect the grandmother.

According to a WPBF-TV report, Nottage later chased the cousin with the knife while the cousin remained on the phone with police.

Investigators said Nottage then attempted to flee the scene.

But before he could escape, the cousin physically confronted him again, leading to another struggle that reportedly left the cousin with an injured hand.

Police said surveillance footage and witness statements supported investigators’ timeline of the attack.

Emergency responders rushed the grandmother to St. Mary’s Hospital for surgery.

Audio from first responders described the severity of the injuries.

“Rescue 3 is going to have a trauma alert coming by ground reference to a stabbing,” one responder said.

“There’s about seven stab wounds in the torso, in the left shoulder and arm.”

The grandmother remained hospitalized in critical condition in the ICU.

Investigators later acknowledged uncertainty about whether she would survive.

Nottage was arrested and booked into the Palm Beach County Jail.

During his first court appearance Monday, he repeatedly interrupted the hearing.

“Keo Nottage?” the judge asked. “Yes, that’s my name,” Nottage responded.

When informed of the charges, Nottage replied, “What are my charges? Attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault.”

Deputies eventually removed him from the courtroom following multiple interruptions.

Court records show police had previously responded to the home for incidents involving Nottage.

In a 2021 case, investigators documented statements from the grandmother describing Nottage’s mental health struggles and prior Baker Act commitments.

He is currently being held without bond pending an Arthur hearing.

The West Palm Beach attack was one of two brutal Mother’s Day stabbings involving family members that left elderly women hospitalized and investigators scrambling to piece together chaotic scenes.

On Long Island, police said officers were forced to open fire on a man accused of stabbing his wheelchair-bound mother more than 40 times inside the family’s Hamptons home.

Authorities identified the suspect as 28-year-old Steven Eastwood.

Police said Eastwood was shot and killed by officers Sunday afternoon after they arrived and discovered him allegedly continuing the attack.

The victim survived and remains hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

Southampton police Chief James Kiernan described the incident Monday as an extraordinarily violent scene that unfolded rapidly after the victim made desperate calls to 911.

According to police, the first emergency call came shortly before 2:45 p.m. from the family’s home on Toppings Path Drive in Northampton.

The woman reportedly told dispatchers her son was intoxicated and acting violently.

As officers raced toward the scene, the victim made a second frantic call.

This time, she allegedly warned that Eastwood was threatening her with a knife.

When officers entered the home, they found Eastwood standing over his blood-covered mother while still armed with the weapon, according to police.

“Faced with an ongoing, deadly assault, officers discharged their service weapons, striking Mr. Eastwood and immediately stopping the attack,” Kiernan said.

Eastwood was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the woman suffered more than 40 stab wounds during the attack.

She was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital, where she remained in critical condition.

Officials said the family had a long history of domestic violence incidents stretching back nearly a decade.

Police also revealed the victim previously obtained an order of protection against her son, though it was no longer active.

The woman’s family included three sons who are triplets, according to investigators.

Police said two of the brothers have histories of mental illness.

Authorities did not publicly discuss a possible motive for the stabbing.

Kiernan said the officers involved in the shooting were deeply shaken by what they witnessed.

The three responding officers were taken to a hospital for trauma evaluations after the attack.

“They’re doing okay, but very shook,” the chief said.

Southampton Town Supervisor Maria Moore also addressed the violence Monday.

“Yesterday’s incident was extremely tragic and violent,” Moore said.

“Our concerns, first and foremost, are the victim and her family as she continues to fight the very serious injuries.”

Moore praised officers, EMS workers, and assisting agencies for their response during what she described as a “dangerous and rapidly evolving situation.”

The New York Attorney General’s Office has launched an investigation into the fatal police shooting, which is standard procedure in officer-involved deaths across the state.
