A homeless man was on the run for allegedly murdering his own brother in cold blood, after regularly sleeping with his wife while his sibling was away protecting the country.
Homeless man kills soldier brother
Authorities have arrested Kyle Andrew Coolack, aged 39, who had been evading capture for two years.
Police allege that he murdered his younger brother in 2022 following an altercation about an ongoing affair with the brother’s wife, while the soldier was overseas on deployment at the time.
The arrest occurred in Iowa after Coolack reportedly confessed to people in the home he was staying at that he had killed his brother.
The person who turned him over to authorities told a local news outlet that the homeless man had been posing as a veteran trying to get on his feet, which is why he offered him a place to stay.
When asked to leave, he began walking south toward Fort Dodge where a deputy apprehended him on Highway 4.
Initially, Coolack provided a false identity to the officer, but later disclosed his true name.
A warrant for his arrest was already in place for the murder of his 35-year-old brother, Brad Coolack, on March 11, 2022.
The probable cause affidavit reveals a 911 call from someone identifying as “Coolack,” who reported another man being shot in the leg and unresponsive.
Using the victim’s phone, he frantically called dispatchers but later refused to answer when they repeatedly called back.
Upon arriving at a Houston apartment, officers discovered Brad Coolack deceased from multiple gunshot wounds in the bedroom.
Paramedics pronounced him dead on the scene, and investigators noted the bedroom door had been forced open, along with three shell casings nearby.
An autopsy confirmed Brad Coolack had been shot in the back at point-blank range.
Homeless man was suspected by his own mother
Detectives interviewed a neighbor who recalled hearing an argument between two men, one accusing the other of sleeping with his wife, shortly before gunshots were heard.
Brad Coolack’s ex-wife acknowledged her extramarital involvement with Kyle Coolack during her husband’s deployment, as documented in the affidavit.
The Coolack’s mother reported a previous incident months before the alleged murder where Kyle had pistol-whipped Brad, a claim corroborated by two of Brad’s colleagues.
The mother further indicated that Kyle frequently stayed at Brad’s Texas apartment, leading her to believe he was behind the murder.
Investigators also uncovered an incident in May 2021 involving Kyle taking a selfie with a 9 mm handgun—the same caliber used to kill Brad—and sending it to a coworker as a threat.
Officers found an empty 9 mm gun case in the apartment, with records showing Kyle had purchased the weapon in March 2021.
Kyle Coolack currently resides in Carroll County Jail, awaiting extradition to Houston.
Woman fatally shoots teenager while aiming for her half-sister
In a separate case, Alajah Elizabeth Holmes, 21, faces life in prison for the shooting death of a teenager caught in her crossfire.
The York County District Attorney’s office announced that Holmes pleaded guilty to criminal homicide in the December 30, 2022, killing of 18-year-old Amiya Paige.
Holmes admitted to opening fire from the passenger seat of a U-Haul van, targeting her half-sister after a Facebook argument escalated.
According to Holmes’ testimony, a planned fistfight with her half-sister led to the confrontation.
Claiming her sister threatened to bring a gun, Holmes armed herself and sought her sister in York City, Pennsylvania, accompanied by a friend driving the van.
At trial, Holmes cited mental health struggles and heavy drinking before the shooting.
Holmes’ half-sister recalled receiving a street sign photo from Holmes shortly before the U-Haul arrived.
She allegedly taunted her sister before firing, with one bullet fatally striking Paige in the back.
Holmes fled the scene, but police traced the U-Haul driver, who was shocked at Holmes’ sudden gunfire. She later surrendered to the authorities.
