Two Texas sisters accused in a midday stabbing that killed a beloved mother-of-five appeared to smile for cameras as police led them away in handcuffs.

The fatal case began with Caroline Peña, known as “Caro” to friends and family, arriving at a hospital with multiple stab wounds before police later arrested Kitty Mia Diaz, 21, and Amaya Cookie Diaz, 19, in Del Rio.

A third woman, Kyandra Renee Faz, 21, was also taken into custody in connection with the fatal attack.

The first emergency call sent officers to Val Verde Regional Medical Center at about 2:10 p.m., after Peña showed up wounded.

Doctors moved her to a different facility in San Antonio as the case turned from a local stabbing investigation into a fight to save her life.

Hours later, police were told Peña had not survived wounds to her back and stomach.

The violence did not unfold in some hidden corner of town, according to one of Peña’s childhood friends.

“This wasn’t something that happened in a back alley,” friend Zelina Ochoa said to KENS 5.

“This happened at the corner near Sonic on one of our busiest roads in broad daylight.”

The hospital report eventually led police back to the scene of the attack. Detectives pieced together the suspect list through video, physical evidence and witness interviews.

Peña’s friends told KENS 5 that images and video from the confrontation were shared for a short time online before being removed.

In one reported image, Peña appeared bloodied in a pink shirt near the three young women.

Another reported clip placed the confrontation near a Sonic drive-through before Peña died.

Police arrested the sisters first, at about 4 p.m., and took Faz into custody soon after.

As officers secured the sisters in handcuffs and escorted them to waiting patrol vehicles, they seemed to grin and mug for the camera capturing the scene.

The recording continued after they were placed in patrol vehicles, when a woman who identified herself as their mother confronted the person behind the camera.

After booking, police transferred all three women to the GEO Correctional Facility to await court proceedings.

Officials said additional charges could follow as the investigation continues.

The killing left Peña’s friends describing a public attack that seemed to stun even those familiar with the busy Del Rio stretch where the violence allegedly unfolded.

In Delaware, a dispute over braids allegedly spiraled into a salon stabbing that injured two people.

The June 7 call brought state troopers to Fransiah African Braids on North Market Street in Wilmington.

Before the alleged attack, the teen suspect tossed around items around the salon and grabbed scissors belonging to the stylist, Delaware State Police said.

Police said the confrontation resumed when the girl returned from the restroom with the scissors.

The argument then escalated into an assault, leaving the stylist with multiple stab wounds, authorities said.

A second victim was wounded while trying to hold the teen back, according to police.

Both individuals were transported to a nearby hospital, where their injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening.

The teen was still outside the salon when troopers arrived and took her into custody.

She was transported to Troop 1 and charged with assault, aggravated menacing and disorderly conduct.

A court later ordered her held through the Department of Services for Children, Youth, and Their Families on a $10,100 secured bond.

The final stabbing case began in a Long Island basement bedroom and ended with Bobby Carragher dying in his father’s arms.

Carragher, 28, was later discovered on the kitchen floor of the Massapequa home with a wound to his neck, according to News 12 Long Island.

Nassau County police believe Carragher had spent hours watching television in his basement bedroom with Kristin Sculley, 22, before the pair of friends argued, NBC New York reported.

After Carragher drifted off, Sculley is accused of launching the attack.

After waking up wounded, Carragher ran upstairs and screamed for his mother, PIX 11 reported.

His parents hurried to his side and attempted to stem the bleeding before he went down.

Once help arrived, Carragher was pronounced dead at the scene.

“He died in his father’s arms,” Nassau County Detective Lieutenant George Darienzo later said.

Sculley allegedly never left the house, with police finding her hidden in the basement.

Officers said she still had a pocket knife believed to be the murder weapon.

Police have not offered a motive beyond describing the pair as longtime friends who had known each other for years.

Investigators said Sculley had no prior criminal record.

Investigators noted indications of possible drug use, although no drugs were actually found at the scene.

Sculley has entered a not guilty plea to a charge of second-degree murder and remains in custody without bail.
