A Florida woman’s storm-shelter visit took a chilling turn when she allegedly discovered the lifeless body of her son’s girlfriend wrapped in a brown tarp.
Alleged killer stashed victim’s body in brown tarp
Kristin Carrier, 43, who suffered fatal gunshot and stab wounds, was found in the bedroom of her boyfriend, Robert Hendrix, 32, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities charged Hendrix with second-degree murder and evidence tampering upon his arrest.
On October 9, Hendrix’s 71-year-old mother arrived at his Jacksonville home seeking refuge from Hurricane Milton. The following day, after the storm passed, Hendrix left for a local store.
During his absence, his mother reportedly found Carrier’s body, with four gunshot wounds, encased in a large brown tarp in a bedroom. Disturbed by the discovery, she contacted her daughter, who came to collect her.
When Hendrix came back home and was confronted by his immediate family members about the the gruesome discovery, then they drove away and called the cops.
Police responded in the early evening of October 10, discovering blood spattered across the floor and walls of the residence.
Killer did little to hide body beyond covering it with a brown tarp
Carrier’s body, wrapped in the brown tarp, was located near the bedroom entrance.
Investigators collected a knife, a baseball bat, and a gun from the scene and submitted them for forensic testing, but the results were not made public.
A witness allegedly confirmed hearing Carrier screaming from the bedroom around 3 p.m. on October 9, according to police reports.
Analysis of cellphone data revealed Carrier was alone in Hendrix’s home at the time of the murder.
It’s unclear how soon Hendrix’s mother arrived to his home after Carrier was killed.
Due to Hendrix’s status as a convicted felon, police arrested him for illegal firearm possession. He also allegedly had methamphetamine in the residence.
Hendrix has remained in the Duval County Jail since, allowing investigators additional time to secure evidence before filing charges.
He is currently held without bond, with a court appearance scheduled for March 12.
Woman dismembers and BBQ’s mother
Meanwhile, in Maryland, Candace Craig, 46, was sentenced to life without parole for the gruesome killing and dismemberment of her 71-year-old mother, Margaret Craig.
Prosecutors alleged that an argument over a credit card in May 2023 led to the heinous act at their Hyattsville-area home.
Authorities reported that Craig, with assistance from her daughter, Salia Hardy, 21, attempted to burn her mother’s body using a grill.
Hardy, who pleaded guilty to being an accessory after the fact, testified against her mother under a plea deal.
Hardy, noted to have learning disabilities that made her susceptible to coercion, shared chilling details in court.
She recounted hearing her grandmother scream, only for Craig to dismiss it by claiming something had fallen in the basement.
When Hardy later discovered Margaret Craig’s body concealed with a garbage bag over her head in a bin, her mother allegedly instructed her to dispose of DNA evidence using acid, burning, or dismemberment.
According to Hardy, Craig later brought grilling supplies, including gasoline, from Home Depot.
The mother-daughter duo also grilled chicken in an apparent effort to disguise the odor of the burning body parts, prosecutors claimed.
Efforts to burn Margaret’s body were unsuccessful, leading Craig to move the remains back inside after letting them “cool off.”
From there, Craig reportedly dismembered her mother’s body with a chain saw in the basement, placing the remains in trash bags.
Law enforcement officers uncovered the grisly evidence during a welfare check on June 2, prompted by a concerned 911 caller who had not heard from Margaret Craig for days.
The responding officers noted a strong odor of decomposition upon entering the residence.
Blood and tissue fragments were found near plastic trash bags, one of which contained suspected brain matter. A chainsaw with human remains, along with a knife, were also located nearby.
Maryland Assistant Medical Examiner Dr. Pamela Ferreira later testified that investigators recovered 67 fragments of human remains, though not all were accounted for.
Evidence suggested the remains had been burned and mutilated, though the cause of death was officially ruled as homicide by undetermined means.
