In California, police recently uncovered a startling scene—a naked guy living in a crawlspace beneath an elderly woman’s home.
Naked guy terrifies elderly woman
The unsettling find occurred in Los Angeles last Thursday, when the 93-year-old was not only horrified to learn that the man had been living under her home, but refused to come out.
She had reported hearing strange noises for months, but family members had brushed them off as animal sounds.
In reality, 27-year-old Isaac Betancourt, had been squatting beneath the floor for possibly six months, and was not about to leave after he was discovered.
Ricardo Silva, the woman’s son-in-law, explained how the odd “knocking” sounds grew louder Thursday, which is when they knew something was wrong and called the authorities.
“It was kind of like, as my wife was walking, they were kind of knocking back from under the house,” he told NBC News.
Initially attributing the noises to wildlife, the family was shocked to discover the naked man who had allegedly found his way into the home through an unsecured entry point.
Getting the nude man to come out of the crawlspace was a huge undertaking that forced the elderly woman to leave her home and sleep elsewhere for the night while police took measures to remove him by force.
Naked guy resists police
After hours of trying to coax him out, police deployed K-9 units and tear gas to get Betancourt out of the home.
“He refused to leave,” Silva disclosed. “He wasn’t scared of the dogs, and the first two attempts at gas didn’t fish him out.”
To complicate matters, was only two-feet tall and had several entry points, which allowed Betancourt to resist their attempts for hours.
It wasn’t until around 4:30 in the morning that he surrendered and was arrested, leading police discover his nest of blankets and food stashed underneath the residence.
The LAPD confirmed that Betancourt now faces trespassing charges, adding to his existing criminal record of five felony arrests in the LA area over the past couple of years.
Elderly man attempts to strangle wife
Separately, in Florida, 93-year-old Helmut Viktor Stefan Lockner was detained for trying to end his wife’s life in a murder-suicide.
According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded on October 26, 2024, discovering the elderly victim distressed and bleeding on a patio, with ligature marks visible on her neck.
She reported Lockner attempted to strangle her with a rope and told the police he was still in their home.
Inside, authorities encountered Lockner, who was in the middle of a phone call with the coiled rope on the dining table next to him where he sat.
The wife recounted how what began as a “normal day” took a violent turn when her husband, suffering from chronic pain, sought to take both their lives.
“The victim advised the Defendant was in a lot of pain,” the affidavit stated. She was caught off guard while watching TV when he allegedly attacked her from behind.
During the 911 call she made, Lockner could be heard saying, “You can die with me.”
The victim also reported a prior attempt by Lockner to smother her with a pillow weeks earlier, after they talked, she didn’t believe he would try it again.
After the attack, Lockner reportedly told authorities his intentions to use the rope to kill himself post-murder attempt; however, he was unsuccessful with the pillow and opted for a “crazy idea” involving the rope instead.
“The Defendant advised he is dying and did not want to leave his wife alone,” the affidavit said. “The Defendant advised he used the rope on the table to strangle her because he was trying to kill her.”
Sheriff’s spokesperson Zach Moore remarked, “I‘ve been at the sheriff’s office for five and a half years and I’ve never seen anything like this.”
Two days after his arrest, Lockner entered a not guilty plea to two counts of attempted first-degree murder. He posted $5,000 bond, but is not allowed contact with his wife unless a family member is present.
