60-year-old Paul Giacopelli pleaded guilty last week to dual charges of first-degree sexual abuse and second-degree assault, after being indicted in March.

According to the The Putnam County District Attorney’s Office, Giacopelli served as the head anesthesiologist at the county’s hospital at the time of his arrest.

Officials, after an exhaustive investigation, concluded that Giacopelli utilized chemicals to render his nanny unconscious before committing the assault at his residence.

According to the victim’s statement to authorities she woke up to a rag being put over her face and passed out four times in 2023.

After becoming suspicious of her employer, the nanny rigged a hidden camera ahead of Giacopelli’s arrival, before she went to sleep.

The anesthesiologist eventually came into the room and placed a rag over her face before assaulting her.

When the nanny regaining consciousness, she watched the video and saw herself being sexually abused.

The anesthesiologist was arrested by law enforcement after she brought footage to a police station as proof.

Giacopelli admitted to investigators that he had soaked the anesthetic chemical Sevoflurane into rags to render his victim unconscious.

He told cops he had engaged in his “chloroform fetish” when he sexually assault the nanny once she was passed out.

He specifically targeted the woman because she was a “heavy sleeper,” and confessed to using drugs that he stole from the hospital he worked at.

In addition to anesthesia he lifted, police discovered fentanyl and other drugs at his residence.

Giacopelli’s attorney, Steven Gaitman, said that his client “assumed responsibility for his crimes, and now is focused on tending to his family.”

Under a plea deal, prosecutors said Giacopelli would be “sentenced to four years in state prison with post-release supervision for up to ten years” on November 12.

He will also be required to register as a sex offender, and his medical license has been revoked.

“I’m very proud of the work of the Sheriff’s Department and ADA Lynch; but I’m mostly proud of the victim’s courage in going through this process which led to the defendant’s arrest and conviction,” District Attorney Robert V. Tendy commented.

Fake plastic surgeon arrested for botched procedure that injured patient

In another case, a man identifying himself as a “board-certified” plastic surgeon faces criminal charges for allegedly operating without a license.

Cristian Adrian Perez Latorre, 53, has been accused of performing a cosmetic procedure without being allowed to practice in Los Angeles, California.

The botched surgery happened over three years ago and caused infections, along with significant injury to an unnamed woman.

Latorre has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon, battery resulting in serious injury, and several counts of practicing medicine without certification.

According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, the charges date back to July and August 2021.

Latorre allegedly performed unlicensed surgery on a woman during this period, which led to a series of infections.

He then tried to treat her for the infections and attempted to rectify other unnamed complications from the procedure, which led to “great bodily injury.”

“On July 13, 2021, Latorre allegedly performed an unlicensed cosmetic surgery on a woman. On July 23, 2021, Latorre medically treated the victim for infections that resulted from the surgery,” prosecutors said about the crimes.

“On August 13, 2021, Latorre again treated the victim for further complications related to the surgery.”

The fake doctor was arrested on Thursday and could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón spoke about the risks of unlicensed doctors performing procedures they’re not qualified to do.

“It not only endangers lives but also erodes the essential trust between patients and legitimate healthcare providers,” he commented.

“This act of deception threatens the integrity of our healthcare system and the confidence that the community has in those dedicated to their well-being.”

“We are committed to seeking justice for the victim, holding Mr. Latorre accountable and restoring the trust that has been so grievously violated,” Gascon concluded.
