A true crime writer and rock star’s wife is behind bars after tangling with police during an active manhunt.
Weezer star’s wife shot outside home
The wife of Scott Shriner, bassist for Weezer, was injured during a confrontation with law enforcement and later arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on Wednesday in Los Angeles.
The incident began around 3 p.m. following a multi-vehicle crash involving three cars on the 134 Freeway.
One male driver, reportedly involved in the crash, fled the scene on foot along with two other men.
In an attempt to evade officers, the suspect ditched his clothes down to his underwear and tried to hide in plain sight amongst the residential surroundings by jumping into a backyard swimming pool and oddly even tending to plants.
Los Angeles Police Department officers were canvassing the Eagle Rock neighborhood in connection with the hit-and-run case when they encountered Jill Shriner, who was not involved in the original traffic collision.
True crime writer shot by police
Officers reported seeing her holding a handgun in the backyard of a home adjacent to the residence they were searching for the suspect in.
According to LAPD, officers repeatedly directed Shriner to drop the weapon before the situation unfortunately escalated.
“The officers ordered Shriner to drop the handgun numerous times; however, she refused. Shriner then pointed the handgun at the officers, and an Officer-Involved Shooting occurred,” a department press release stated.
Detective Meghan Aguilar told reporters that body camera footage failed to capture definitive details about the critical moments leading up to the shooting.
“At that point there were some commands given, multiple commands to drop the gun, drop the weapon, unfortunately it did result in an officer-involved shooting,” Aguilar said. She added that it was “not clear if she fired at officers or not.”
Aguilar also stated that the footage did not provide “a clear view of what she did with that firearm,” prompting authorities to gather additional evidence, including reviewing multiple videos and pursuing nearby surveillance camera recordings.
After the exchange of gunfire, Shriner reportedly retreated into her home. A short time later, she emerged accompanied by her babysitter, both with hands raised in compliance with police commands.
Officers directed the two women down the driveway and took them into custody without further confrontation.
“Shriner was struck by gunfire and fled into her residence. She later exited and was taken into custody,” the LAPD statement continued.
True crime writer claims she was protecting her home
According to CBS News, during her interaction with law enforcement, Shriner allegedly told officers that her actions were meant to protect her property from what she believed was an intruder roaming through the neighborhood.
She sustained what authorities described as a “non-life-threatening gunshot wound” to the shoulder and was taken to a medical facility for treatment.
During the investigation, police recovered a nine-millimeter handgun from inside her home.
Shriner was booked in absentia on suspicion of attempted murder, as reported by the Los Angeles Times.
She was later released after posting a $1 million bond on the same day. Her court appearance is scheduled for April 30.
The suspect involved in the original hit-and-run was taken into custody by California Highway Patrol officers, issued a citation, and streeted.
Authorities reported that a woman injured during the freeway crash was hospitalized with moderate injuries.

Variety reported that Weezer has been added to the upcoming Coachella music festival lineup, scheduled for this weekend.

He offered no additional remarks but concluded by saying, “See you at Coachella.”
