An Oklahoma woman is facing animal cruelty charges after she reportedly attempted to BBQ her daughter’s cat alive on a grill outside of her home.
Unhinged mom slapped with animal cruelty charges for cat crime
Police were called to Veronica Carillo’s home by her 16-year-old daughter on June 26, when she discovered her mom trying to cook her cat.
The teenager told police that she was trying to find the feisty feline, when she suddenly heard the animal crying in the backyard.
When she went outside, she discovered her her mother standing over the grill cooking a “black trash bag wrapped around an animal carrier.”
After her daughter saw what she was doing, Carillo ran away and was later found by police wrapped in an outdoor rug attempting to hide on her neighbor’s front porch.
Carillo, who is known by neighbors to have a substance abuse problem, appeared to be high when she spoke to the police.
“I was cooking out and the cat got burned,” she was seen saying on one of the officer’s body cameras. “Had to be done, you know, I’m sorry.”
In the video, the officer is heard asking Carillo, “What had to be done?” She responds, “I mean I had to cook.” Although the officer then asks, “What were you cooking?” Carillo doesn’t respond.
Carillo was arrested on animal cruelty charges and remains in jail on a $100,000 bond. She is due back in court later this month, and her family got a protective order against her.
Luckily, the cat survived the attempted bbqing, but was worse for the wear with burns to her paws and whiskers.
A Moore Police Department spokesperson told The Kansas City Star that, “thankfully, the animal was walking around, appearing to have avoided serious injury, and is expected to make a full recovery.”
Man wanted on animal cruelty charges for slaying felines
Elsewhere, residents of a California town are being terrorized by a 70-year-old man allegedly hunting and killing feral cats with a crossbow because he believes they’re demonic.
“There is a man who seems to delight in pretending he’s a Knights Templar, and in the name of the Lord, he exercises demons by shooting cats,” San Pedro resident Holly Sweany told KTTV-TV. “He says they’re demons, they’re demons of the devil.”
Sweany said that the elderly man also fired a shot at her because she puts food out for the unhoused animals.
Sweany works with the Community Animal Rescue Endeavor, which reportedly had a “major colony” of cats, before they started to disappear. One worker told the outlet that the man said he eats the cats he kills.
“As far as he’s concerned, we are working with the devil because we’re helping the cats,” she remarked.
Sweany reported the incident to the cops after the bolt barely missed hitting her in the head, but was told they were unable to go after him due to lack of information about his identity.
They also said she would need to collect video evidence to back her claims before they can do anything about it.
Despite no such footage existing, residents have posted photos of the red cross symbol he leaves behind after shooting every cat to the Citizen social media app to document each occurrence.
Others reported that the same man randomly performs exorcisms and throws holy water on people in the street.
“I don’t think it’s a good thing for someone to be going around shooting animals. They could go and change their minds and start shooting people, too,” one resident remarked.
A different San Pedro resident said the man told him he wasn’t the local cat slayer, but does believe the felines are demons spawn.
“He goes, ‘No, I’m not killing cats. Although they are evil spirits,'” Ken Creighton said. “The guy needs to be stopped obviously.”
Homeless man arrested for smuggling gerbils in his pants
In Ohio, police took a man into custody after allegedly breaking into several businesses in Columbus, Ohio, which ultimately culminated in setting animals free at a pet store chain.
A homeless man had allegedly broke into Roosters, a chicken wing spot, and Famous Footwear where he managed to bloody up several sneakers, before making his way to a pet store in the same strip mall.
Columbus police officers arrived at Petland in Hillard Station in the early hours of the morning to discover that the business’s doors were thrown open, despite the extremely late hour.
WCMH News reported that animals including dogs, birds, ferrets, rabbits, and gerbils had been freed from their cages and were roaming around the shop.
Officers were able to wrangle some of the animals back into their respective cages, but some rabbits, ferrets, and gerbils were still missing.
An hour later, they were able to locate the suspect in a different parking lot, and he wasn’t alone… Once police took him into custody, they found several gerbils, all unharmed, in his pants.
The suspect was taken to get medical help for the injuries he got while breaking into the businesses, and was taken into police custody.
