A former Washington police officer is dead after kidnapping his own son and killing the two women in his life.
Ex-police officer goes on killing spree ahead of trial
Elias Huizar, 40, took his own life while attempting to escape law enforcement after being accused of the murder of his former spouse and his teenage lover.
Huizar’s dramatic final moments unfolded near Eugene, Oregon, following a high-speed pursuit by the Oregon State Patrol, after they spotted his car headed south on a freeway.
The chase led to a minor collision and a shootout ensued between Huizar and the police, though it resulted in no injuries before he managed to flee the scene.
His escape was short-lived as another car crash occurred miles away, when police caught up, they found him dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Huizar is believed to have kidnapped his 1-year-old son, Roman, after committing the murders. The tot was rescued by state troopers and was unharmed during the car chase.
The heinous acts took place on the day Huizar was scheduled to appear in court over accusations of raping a 16-year-old girl, a friend of his 16-year-old girlfriend.
The former officer is alleged to have shot his ex-wife Amber Rodriquez at William Wiley Elementary School, where she worked as a paraeducator, on Monday afternoon. Just days before the tragedy, Rodriguez had sought a custody modification for their two sons, ages 5 and 9.
The shooting occurred as students were being dismissed and prompted a school lockdown while law enforcement launched a manhunt for Huizar.
When police searched his home, residence unveiled the body of who is suspected to be Huizar’s teenage girlfriend.
Police officer describes crime scene as a “massacre”
In Oklahoma, a seemingly devoted husband and father orchestrated the deaths of his wife and three sons before turning the weapon on himself, leaving behind his other 10-year-old son to discover the grim scene.
The deceased family members were identified as Jonathon’s wife, Lindsay, 39, and their sons, Dylan, 18, Ethan, 14, and Lucas, 10.
“(The boy) woke up and discovered what had happened,” Sgt. Gary Knight described the situation as “carnage.”
Following a dispute with his wife, Jonathon shot her and went after three of his four children.
Authorities found the victims, who appeared not to have struggled, in various sections of the home, with two bodies located upstairs, with one of the children shot in bed, and two others downstairs.
“Make no mistake about it, what happened in that residence was nothing short of a massacre,” stated Knight.
Knight said the motive remains unclear, but there were no previous police interactions with the family, no calls to their household, and no known history of domestic violence.
The child, who survived, reported sleeping through the gunfire to authorities.
“He called 911 and said he had just woke up and found the bodies,” Knight elaborated. “The door (to his room) was closed and there was a box fan running” which likely helped muffle the sound.
Knight confirmed the young boy was unharmed physically and is now staying with other family members.
