A confrontation at the entrance of an Ohio Costco turned deadly when a store employee tried to stop a man from walking inside with a firearm, according to investigators.

Police say 61-year-old Randolph E. Corrigan was working at the Strongsville location on Royalton Road when 22-year-old Christian M. Bryant approached the entrance carrying a weapon.

Witnesses told authorities the firearm had a drum magazine that was visible as Bryant moved toward the doors.

Corrigan intervened and told him he could not bring the weapon inside, setting off a chain of events that unfolded in seconds.

According to court records, Bryant fired an initial shot and then continued firing.

“After a split second pause, fired many more, one after another, with no pause,” a document obtained by WJW stated.

Corrigan was hit multiple times. Police said the rounds struck his chest, abdomen and arm.

Officers arriving at the scene found him conscious but fading.

Authorities later noted that “it was apparent his alertness was beginning to decline” before he was transported to MetroHealth, where he died.

People nearby rushed in to help before first responders took over.

Police said at least one bystander tried to stop the bleeding while officers began emergency treatment.

Investigators recovered 13 shell casings at the scene. They also seized a Springfield XD-40 handgun fitted with a drum magazine loaded with dozens of rounds.

Bryant told police he believed he was acting in self-defense. “A white man approached me with a knife for no reason,” he said. “I defended myself.”

He repeated that claim in court, saying, “This man approached me with a knife.” Authorities confirmed Corrigan did have a pocket knife on him.

Bryant now faces a murder charge. A judge set his bond at $5 million during an appearance in Berea Municipal Court.

Detective Zaki Hazou told the court Bryant was traveling through Ohio as a truck driver and has a prior criminal record.

The case is expected to move to a grand jury, and additional charges remain possible.

The shooting is one of several violent incidents tied to Costco locations in recent months.

In Florida, a dispute at a Costco gas station escalated into a pursuit and physical attack that left one woman injured.

Investigators in Miami-Dade County said 29-year-old Valeria Andrea Aguilar was causing a disturbance, yelling at other customers and an employee before the situation escalated.

Another customer got involved by asking that Aguilar’s membership be revoked. Deputies say that interaction triggered the next phase of the incident.

Authorities said Aguilar ran after the woman’s vehicle and then got into her own car, following for roughly half a mile before catching up at an intersection.

She then approached the vehicle and struck the victim through an open window.

According to investigators, she also “grabbed the victim’s clothing and scratched her face, arms and chest.”

The victim fought back using a tool described by deputies as an “axe/multitool,” striking Aguilar and creating an opening to escape.

Aguilar was later taken to a hospital and arrested after being discharged.

She faces a felony charge of burglary with assault or battery. A judge denied bond, and she has pleaded not guilty.

Authorities said she must stay away from both the victim and Costco if she is released.

Other altercations involving Costco locations have drawn attention as well.

In Ottawa, a line for Pokémon cards turned violent when a group of men began fighting outside a store, drawing attention from other shoppers who had gathered early in the morning hoping to secure the limited-release items.

Authorities said the situation escalated quickly from what initially appeared to be a verbal dispute.

Witnesses described tensions building in the line before physical confrontations broke out, with multiple individuals pushing and shoving before punches were thrown.

Officers later confirmed that several people became involved in the altercation, creating a chaotic scene that spilled beyond the immediate line area and forced bystanders to move away for safety.

Video from the scene shows punches being thrown and individuals pulled to the ground as the situation devolved rapidly.

A person recording the incident reacted in real time. “Oh s***! Oh s***! Oh s***!” the bystander said.

“No violence, no violence… No more violence!” the person added.

Police said the fight involved a “high-demand item” and left two people with minor injuries.

In New York City, another incident inside a Costco ended with one man knocked unconscious after an argument turned physical.

Police said the incident began as a disagreement between two men near the store’s aisles, where tensions heightened as the argument continued in close quarters.

Witnesses reported raised voices before the situation turned physical, with one individual allegedly initiating the attack.

Investigators are examining footage that shows the moment the dispute got heated, along with the actions that followed as other shoppers reacted and attempted to create distance from the brawling Costco customers.

Authorities said the dispute began over a shopping cart. One man allegedly struck the other in the head, causing him to collapse and hit a cart.

The victim, 42, was treated for injuries to his head and face. Police said the individuals involved fled, and investigators are reviewing video as they work to identify them.
