A pregnant Oregon woman carrying her 2-year-old son was struck by a vehicle before her husband was stabbed moments later in a violent parking lot confrontation that police say escalated in seconds.

Authorities said the incident unfolded Sunday afternoon at the Rockaway Beach Wayside parking area when a silver Jeep Patriot hit the woman as she walked with her family. She was holding her 2-year-old son when the Jeep hit her.

“Initial information indicated that a pregnant adult female, who was carrying her 2-year-old son and walking with her husband, was struck by a silver Jeep Patriot in the parking area,” the Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office said.

The situation intensified after the vehicle came to a stop. Police said the woman’s husband approached the driver to confront her about what had just happened. That confrontation triggered the next act of violence.

“After the vehicle stopped, the husband confronted the driver regarding the accident. During that confrontation, [Izac Rutledge] exited the vehicle and stabbed the husband in the back with a weapon,” authorities said.

Rutledge, 25, had been riding as a passenger in the Jeep. Investigators said he attacked the husband before jumping back into the vehicle as it sped away from the scene.

“This incident escalated quickly,” Tillamook County Sheriff Josh Brown said.

The driver later abandoned the vehicle a few blocks away and returned on foot, cooperating with deputies.

Rutledge ran from the scene and attempted to avoid detection by changing his clothes, according to investigators.

Deputies located him a short time later and took him into custody without further incident.

The pregnant woman and her toddler both suffered injuries, though officials said they are expected to recover. Her husband was transported to a hospital with a stab wound and is also expected to survive.

Rutledge now faces charges including first-degree assault, menacing, unlawful use of a weapon, and disorderly conduct. He is scheduled to be arraigned on April 3.

Investigators said the attack could have ended far worse given the number of people involved and the sudden escalation from a vehicle collision to a stabbing.

The Oregon case was one of several violent incidents reported in recent days involving vehicles, confrontations, and deadly outcomes.

In Florida, police arrested a man accused of killing a woman during a confrontation outside a tire shop after she tried to stop him from leaving without paying.

Authorities said Ashley Tyer was struck after placing herself in front of the suspect’s vehicle as he attempted to flee. Witnesses said she was thrown from the hood after clinging to the car as it accelerated away.

The incident began after the suspect refused to pay for a $95 tire job, according to statements provided to police.

“That split second I turned around and walked in the office, he was already letting the jack down,” a witness said.

The suspect drove off before stalling briefly, giving employees a chance to identify the vehicle. Tyer stood in front of the car in an attempt to block his escape.

“Ashley stood in front of him so he wouldn’t go, and he didn’t care. He just scooped her up,” the witness said.

She remained on the hood as the vehicle sped away for roughly half a block before turning, throwing her onto the pavement.

Tyer was placed on life support and later died from her injuries, according to police.

Brandon Charles Gregory Lewis has been charged with first-degree vehicular homicide.

Prosecutors outlined a history of driving-related offenses, including a previous case in another state involving a fatal crash.

During a court appearance, Lewis described his occupation as buying and selling cars while working for himself. A judge set his bond at $500,000.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing and additional charges or arrests are possible as evidence continues to be reviewed.

In another case, a road rage confrontation left a 21-year-old expectant father brain dead after prosecutors said a driver intentionally rammed his vehicle into a motorcycle.

Authorities said Gustavo Adolfo Gavia Elias, 29, faces charges including attempted second-degree murder and reckless child abuse after the crash. Two children were inside his SUV at the time.

Court documents describe a confrontation that began when the motorcyclist revved his engine near Elias’s vehicle. The situation escalated after the biker allegedly broke the SUV’s rearview mirror.

Witnesses reported both vehicles speeding before Elias turned sharply and struck the motorcycle, sending both vehicles into a nearby field.

The victim suffered what investigators described as a “catastrophic cervical injury.” He remains on life support with no brain function.

“Right now, he’s brain dead. He has no functions,” the victim’s sister said. “His heart’s still beating on his own, but he’s on a ventilator. As soon as we pull the plug, I mean, it’s over.”

Family members said the victim and his girlfriend had been preparing to learn they were expecting their first child.

“He just is the axis that it spins on in my heart and I don’t know what we’re gonna do when we actually say goodbye to him, but I know it’s gonna hurt like more than anything,” she said.

Investigators said Elias admitted to drinking 12 beers and using cocaine before driving. A breath test showed a blood alcohol content of 0.158.

Police said he also told officers he intentionally drove into the motorcycle after becoming angry during the confrontation. A judge set his bond at $500,000 cash-only.
