A New Jersey man high on marijuana THC edibles was taken into custody after causing chaos on an American Airlines flight by coming on to a flight attendant and attempting to force open the plane’s door.

Airline passenger goes nuts after eating marijuana THC edibles

Eric Nicholas Gapco, 26, consumed ten marijuana THC edibles before getting on a flight from Seattle, Washington to Dallas, Texas, and went so off the rails that the plane had to be diverted.

American Airlines 2101 had just taken off from Seattle on July 18, when Gapco started acting out.

His wild actions began with shouting, singing loudly, vaping, and refusing to stay in his seat.

He escalated to harassing fellow passengers, offering one of them a bag of pills, asking a flight attendant for sex, and stripping off his clothes.

At one point, he had to be forced out of the bathroom and after locking himself in, and even tried to open one of the plane doors.

Gapco’s behavior was so insane that pilots had to divert the flight and make an emergency landing in Utah.

While he was being dragged off the plane by flight attendants and the passengers that leapt up to help them, he shouted, “I’m sane,” then sang “You say ‘po-tay-to’, I say ‘po-tah-to’,” while he was forced down the aisle.

Marijuana THC edibles behind the behavior

Though he initially denied taking any illicit substances before boarding the flight, Gapco eventually admitted to ingesting an whopping ten marijuana THC edibles, though claimed to be unaware of their potency.

Gapco was hit with charges including interference with a flight crew and attempted damage to an aircraft.

Prosecutors said that Gapco continued to be unruly even after being removed to the plane, by behaving combatively toward medical staff and police, one of whom he spat at.

In a statement, American Airlines emphasized their commitment to safety and security, thanking their team for their professionalism and customers for their understanding.

Gapco may face serious time for his actions if convicted of the charges. A passenger on another American Airlines flight was sentenced to 19 months for what he did while flying high out of his mind.

The incident occurred in February 2022 on a flight from Los Angeles, California, to Washington, D.C. According to court records, Juan Remberto Rivas, 52, used plastic cutlery and his shirt sleeve to craft a weapon.

He then pushed a service cart into a flight attendant and tried to open both the cockpit door and one of the plane’s exit doors.

A flight attendant thwarted Rivas by hitting him over the head with a metal coffee pot, and passengers jumped in to help restrain him until the plane landed in Kansas City, where he was arrested.

Rivas pleaded guilty in January to interfering with a flight crew and faces additional charges for assaulting a police officer on the ground.

Unruly airline passenger bites flight attendant

On a different airline, a flight from Miami to Newark had to divert to Orlando, Florida, after an unhinged passenger bit a flight attendant while being aggressively disruptive.

TMZ obtained a video of a woman on a United Airlines flight with her hands restrained behind her back, while she howled at flight attendants and plane passengers.

During the alteration, she bit a flight attendant’s shoulder, threw punches, and appeared to spit on another person.

The woman also yelled about “attitude problem” with United employees, threatened to kill one person, and told an “old lady” to “go back to Russia.”

The footage concluded with police officers taking her off the flight while passengers applauded.

Orlando Police officers detained the woman and took her to a hospital for evaluation, though they did not arrest her at the time.

Drunk passenger pees in the aisle mid-flight

An American Eagle flight from Chicago to Manchester, England was forced to make an emergency landing in Buffalo, New York, when a drunk passenger caused chaos.

Neil McCarthy, a 25-year-old from Oregon, allegedly exposed himself and urinated in the aisle, after drinking too many “Jack and Cokes” during his Chicago layover.

He was arrested and charged with indecent exposure when the plane landed at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport.

McCarthy blamed his actions on a “medical urination problem” and bizarrely referred to his behavior as “flicking the bean.”

McCarthy faces up to six months in prison and a $5,000 fine if convicted. Following his initial court appearance, he was released on his own recognizance.
