Two fifth grade boys were taken into custody at their Florida elementary school for the alleged sale and purchase of a handgun on campus.

Fifth grade students arrested for gun sale

Country Oaks Elementary School experienced a “brief” lockdown on Wednesday morning, after the local Sheriff’s Office received information concerning “a suspicious incident” at the school located in Labelle, Florida.

School staffers and Hendry County Deputies reportedly “looked into the situation and together resolved it” quickly while teachers and students remained safely in the confines of their classrooms.

It’s reported that officers found bullets inside the backpack belonging to the youngster who allegedly bought the weapon onto campus. The firearm belonged to the boy’s dead father, and he sold it to another 10-year-old boy for $300 in cash.

Authorities later recovered the handgun hidden under a shed in the backyard of the juvenile who had acquired the gun. Next to the firearm, a pouch containing about 74 grams of cannabis was also uncovered by the police.

To make the situation even more complicated, the boy who sold the gun is the son of one of the Hendry County Deputies, who has been suspended from duty until her workplace is able to investigate the incident.

After the firearm and ammo was found, both children were arrested on serious charges. The deputies son faces counts of selling a firearm to a minor, unlawful possession of a firearm by a minor, possession of a firearm on school property, and grand theft of a firearm.

The boy he sold the gun to also faces a slew of charges including purchase of a firearm by a minor, unlawful possession of a firearm by a minor, possession of a firearm on school property, and possession of marijuana over 20 grams.

Both children were taken into and remain in the custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice.

Elsewhere, two Texas boys, aged 7 and 12 were arrested for allegedly stabbing a 59-year-old woman last week.

The children attacked the woman in her Harris County home after getting into a “verbal altercation,” and returning to violently attack her.

The woman was so badly wounded by her preteen attackers that she had to be transported to a hospital by life flight.

“The female appeared to have several stab wounds to her abdomen area,” Harris County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Sergio Torres said. “The female was transported to a nearby hospital where she’s right now in surgery and is in critical condition.”

The 12-year-old boy is reportedly the one who is facing charges, but it remains unclear if one or both of the children were responsible for the brutal stabbing.
