Influencer Sara Gilson had already put one nightmare on TikTok before the final one unfolded inside her Oklahoma home.
In a July 11 video, she accused her soon-to-be ex-husband, Jeremiah “Shawn” Duffey, of being a pedophile.
Thirteen days later, her underage son was on the phone with 911, telling a dispatcher that “his stepfather had shot his mother.”
The call came around 11:15 p.m. on July 24, according to KTUL. The dispatcher also heard a woman screaming and weeping before a gunshot sounded over the line.

When police arrived, Gilson, 41, and Duffey, 48, were found dead from apparent gunshot wounds to the head. KTUL reported that investigators believe the case appears to be a murder-suicide.
Gilson’s TikTok post was still visible on her account as of Saturday. Its caption read, “Preparing for when Netflix drops a documentary about my soon to be ex-husband who I just found out is a pedophile.”
The warning signs were not only online. Gilson had filed a protective order on June 10 that required Duffey to stay at least 100 yards away from her. The order was extended on June 23 and was set to run through Aug. 24.

KTUL cited an extended family member who identified the two dead people in the home as Gilson and Duffey. That relative alleged Duffey broke into the house, killed Sara and then killed himself.
Police confirmed the couple’s identities, according to KRMG, but did not publicly call the deaths a murder-suicide. The department also told the public there was no current threat.
Duffey was already facing another accusation when Gilson sought court protection.
On the same day Gilson filed her protective order, another woman filed for a separate protective order after Duffey was allegedly spotted “kissing and fondling” her 15-year-old daughter, according to The Oklahoman.
The girl played on a youth basketball team Duffey coached. The outlet reported that he had allegedly sent her inappropriate messages and given her money “to keep her quiet.”
A report was made to the Owasso Police Department after the alleged incident involving the teen. The case, however, moved to federal authorities after police determined the alleged offense happened in Indian Country and Duffey was a member of the Osage Nation.
The referral to the U.S. Attorney’s Office under the Federal Major Crimes Act ended Owasso Police’s jurisdiction over the reported molestation case. Duffey was never arrested or charged over the alleged incident.
People reported that Gilson had filed two earlier protective orders against Duffey, but both were dismissed after she failed to appear at the hearings.
The Oklahoma deaths were part of a brutal stretch of suspected murder-suicides across the country.
In New York City, Mary Kate Golding, a 34-year-old set designer who worked on “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” was found fatally stabbed in the basement of her Astoria, Queens, home.
Police were called to the residence shortly after midnight on Tuesday, July 21, an NYPD spokesperson revealed. Golding had a fatal stab wound to her back and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The case then led to Astoria Park, where Golding’s husband, Joseph Azzaretto, 33, was found hanging from a tree in what appeared to be a possible murder-suicide, according to the New York Post.
Sources told the Post that Azzaretto confessed to the killing over the phone during calls to one of Golding’s friends and a family member.
The unnamed friend found Golding dead in the home. The couple’s baby was found nearby.
In Michigan, the death toll was even larger. Mandy Karolkiewicz, 39, Kris Karolkiewicz, 47, and their six children, ages 5 to 15, were found dead inside their Grand Haven Township home after a fire.
Police and fire authorities were called to the house, on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan, just before noon. Capt. Jacob Sparks of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office described the discovery during an evening news conference.
Some of the victims had gunshot wounds, though authorities have not said how many. Investigators were still working to determine the causes of death.
Sparks said authorities were not looking for outside suspects and that one theory so far was murder-suicide. Everyone who lived in the home appeared to be deceased.
The fire scene raised more questions. Investigators found heavy smoke and smoke damage inside the home but no apparent structural damage. Sparks said the fire appeared to have been set intentionally and called it a “complicated scene.”
The sheriff’s office had no record of previous calls to the home. “Bad stuff can happen in any community, and you know, this is a tragic event no matter how you slice it,” Sparks said.
Mandy Karolkiewicz’s stepfather, Steve Lawwill, told The Detroit News that he and his wife were waiting for autopsy results for the rest of the family and a police statement before sharing more.
Sheriff’s detectives are working with Michigan State Police arson investigators as the investigation continues pending autopsies.
