An Oklahoma father’s road-trip bathroom stop turned into a viral confrontation after a man called police because he brought his two young daughters into an empty women’s restroom instead of taking them into a dirty men’s room.

The blowup began during Tyler Brodsky’s drive home from Florida, when a stop at an Alabama QuikTrip turned into a confrontation over which restroom he should use with his daughters.

Before going in, Brodsky said, he announced himself and checked that no one was inside.

He chose that bathroom, he explained, because he did not want to bring his daughters into the men’s room.

“I knock and announced that I’m coming in with two girls, which, at this time, the bathroom was empty,” Brodsky recounted on “Fox & Friends First.”

“This guy comes in, starts yelling, demanding that we need to leave. [He said] I should have taken them to the men’s restroom, which I disagreed with. I’ve personally been in the men’s restrooms. I just didn’t feel like it was a good place to take two little girls.”

The situation escalated when the other man appeared at the women’s restroom and got police on the phone before the family had finished washing up.

In Brodsky’s TikTok footage, the man narrated the scene to dispatchers from just outside the restroom.

“There is a man with his two little girls using the women’s bathroom, he is washing his hands with his daughter right now,” the man said on the call.

He also told police that his wife and “very-ill” mother-in-law were waiting, while accusing Brodsky of dragging out the stop.

“He is taking his sweet time,” the man said.

Brodsky’s daughter could be heard crying as the confrontation continued.

A QuikTrip worker then intervened, shielding the girls from the argument long enough for them to finish at the sink.

The worker handed the children paper towels and tried to comfort them.

“There you go sweetheart,” she told one of the girls before turning to Brodsky. “I’m so sorry,” she said.

The argument continued outside the restroom after Brodsky and his daughters left.

Outside, Brodsky’s camera kept rolling as the caller relayed his description to police and kept arguing about the restroom choice.

“He’s out now, justifying what he has been doing,” the man said.

In a follow-up video, Brodsky said three officers came to the store and quickly calmed things down.

According to Brodsky, officers told him he had not broken the law.

“They ended up showing up very quickly, very professional, very nice, quickly deescalated the situation,” Brodsky said.

He said one officer pointed out that taking two little girls into the men’s room could have created its own problem.

“One of the officers was talking to me and the man and pointed out that taking two little girls into the men’s restroom could be viewed just as negatively as me being in the women’s restroom with my girls,” Brodsky said.

“There was ultimately really nothing they could do, they let me know that I was okay, that I didn’t do anything wrong.”

After speaking with Melissa, Brodsky said, police ultimately had the caller leave.

He later thanked the employee, whom he identified only as Melissa, for helping him and his daughters during the tense moment.

“We really do appreciate your support and care that you showed us,” he said.

“Me being in that situation with them, we really needed that. It’s always good to have someone in your corner.”

Before the family resumed the trip, Brodsky said QuikTrip workers tried to soften the ordeal by giving the girls slushies.

The viral attention quickly moved beyond the gas station.

The fallout later reached Mississippi, where Overstreet Properties said the man in the video had been an independent contractor and had been cut loose.

The Starkville-based firm distanced itself from the footage in a public statement.

“The conduct depicted in the video does not reflect the values of Overstreet Properties or the standards we expect of those who represent our organization,” the company said in a social media post. “Our focus remains on providing quality service to our clients, partners, and community.”

Brodsky said the response to the video showed him how many parents have faced similarly uncomfortable choices in public spaces.

“This isn’t about one argument in a gas station. It’s about the fact that parents are often put in situations that aren’t comfortable. We’re simply trying to take care of our children and keep them safe,” he said.

“I hope the man that did this will come across this video and realize what he did was wrong and not do it to anyone else.”

In Florida, another bathroom dispute involving a child ended with a mother facing a felony charge.

The Florida case involved Latoya Gaines, 48, who police say turned a daycare restroom dispute into an alleged attack on a 10-year-old.

Investigators said Gaines was at the Bay County facility on April 24 to collect two children when the restroom dispute began.

According to an arrest affidavit, Gaines wanted the 10-year-old to come out so she could use the bathroom with her child.

“Gaines demanded [the victim] exit the restroom so Gaines could use it with her child,” the affidavit obtained by Law & Crime alleges. “[The victim] requested Gaines wait her turn, at which point the altercation escalated.”

Authorities allege Gaines then hit the girl hard enough to leave bruising near her eye.

Afterward, investigators said Gaines walked away from the facility with her daughters.

Witness accounts backed up the report once the victim’s mother contacted police.

Police later tried to reach Gaines at home but did not find her there. Reached by phone, Gaines allegedly acknowledged being part of the confrontation.

The victim’s mother said she wanted the case prosecuted. Gaines was arrested on a third-degree felony child abuse charge.
