Authorities in two separate Midwestern states are investigating deadly shootings in which angry women are accused of turning firearms on their spouses during heated confrontations inside their homes.

Two angry women fatally pull the trigger

Both cases involve allegations of long-standing tensions and arguments that, according to official documents, ended in fatal gunfire.

In Iowa, 66-year-old Kimberly Ann Charlton is facing a charge of first-degree murder after allegedly killing her 72-year-old husband, David Alan Charlton, inside their Cedar Falls home.

According to law enforcement officials, officers were dispatched to the couple’s residence at approximately 6:32 p.m. on June 4, after a call came in regarding a domestic dispute and a possible shooting.

Responding officers located a man inside the house who appeared to have sustained a gunshot wound.

The man was declared dead at the scene and later identified as David Charlton. His wife, Kimberly Charlton, was still in their home when police arrived and was taken into custody without incident.

The Cedar Falls Department of Public Safety confirmed that multiple agencies were involved in handling the case, including Black Hawk County Dispatch, MercyOne Paramedics, and the Cedar Falls Fire Division.

Kimberly Charlton reportedly told investigators that an altercation began in the bedroom of the couple’s home, according to the criminal complaint.

She claimed that David Charlton had tried to physically harm her, but the confrontation ended when their dog defended her.

According to her account, David Charlton briefly left the room and came back wielding a walking cane, allegedly threatening to hit the dog.

Kimberly Charlton told police that as her husband chased the pet down the hallway, she retrieved a firearm from the bedroom dresser.

She then followed him and issued a warning, saying, “I’m going to shoot you if you don’t stop.”

When he continued toward the dog, she reportedly fired one round, striking him in the middle of his back.

Charlton is being held at the Black Hawk County Jail on a $1 million bond.

Angry women kill husbands

In a separate case out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, authorities say a 61-year-old woman shot and killed her husband following an intense verbal argument that turned deadly.

Doris Winters is facing charges of first-degree reckless homicide and use of a dangerous weapon for the incident that took place on May 31.

According to the criminal complaint filed on June 4 in Milwaukee County, Winters admitted to fatally shooting 49-year-old Aerion Winters during an argument inside her apartment.

Officers were dispatched to an apartment block at the intersection at around 10 p.m., where they encountered Winters walking away from the building.

“Upon arrival, citizens who were outside the apartments pointed to a woman who was walking away,” the complaint states.

“The citizens said she was the shooter. The officers saw the woman drop a handgun. They stopped her, took her into custody, and secured the gun she had dropped.”

While being transported by police, Winters allegedly said, “He called me a b— for the last time and I just shot him.”

Woman told cops she was “tired”

She also reportedly added, “I just grabbed my gun and shot him,” and repeated, “I’m tired. I know I shouldn’t have shot him, but I’m just tired.”

The complaint outlines how the situation unfolded and turned deadly. A witness who accompanied Aerion Winters to the apartment said the victim was staying elsewhere and had come by to collect personal items.

The argument began shortly after they entered the apartment, and the witness attempted to intervene to calm the situation.

According to the complaint, Doris Winters picked up a firearm near a table in the living room, racked the slide, and said it was loaded.

The argument escalated when the victim went upstairs, briefly spoke with Doris Winters’ mother, and returned.

When she told him not to speak to her mother, he reportedly insulted her again, which appeared to trigger the fatal shot.

Winters allegedly reached around the witness and fired a single shot into Aerion Winters’ back.

Prosecutors say the victim collapsed and that Winters told the witness, “Get him out of here before I shoot him again.”

Investigators say she admitted to shooting her husband after he turned his back on her, adding that she did not intend to kill him.
