A mother’s dangerous “game” has left an 8-year-old girl in the hospital with severe injuries, and the woman now faces child neglect charges in South Bend, Indiana.
Child injured in mother’s game
Jasmine White, a 27-year-old mother, has been charged with two counts of child neglect after a harrowing incident in which one of her daughters was severely injured during what was allegedly intended to be a playful activity.
The incident occurred on August 29, when White and her children were outside their home.
According to court records and local reports, White was playing what one of her children described as a “game” she often played with them.
This so-called game involved White racing her children to the car, locking the doors, and pretending to drive away, leaving the children behind.
Tragically, this routine turned into a nightmare when White’s 8-year-old daughter became caught under the rear tire of the moving car.
According to reports, the young girl was holding onto the door handle of the vehicle when her foot became trapped under the car’s rear wheel, dragging her to the ground.
As a result of the incident, the girl suffered severe injuries, including a fractured skull, orbital fractures, significant bruising, and a facial laceration deep enough to expose bone. Additionally, the child lost five teeth due to the impact.
The girl was rushed to a local hospital, where she spent several days receiving medical treatment. During her stay, she required intubation and IV sedation to manage her injuries and recovery.
After an extensive period of hospitalization, she has since been released, though the extent of her long-term recovery remains uncertain.
Mother hit with child neglect charges over “game”
The gravity of the situation came to light when one of White’s other children recounted the events to investigators.
According to WNDU, the child told investigators that White had been driving faster than she normally did during the game.
As the 8-year-old clung to the door handle, the vehicle sped up, ultimately leading to the child being run over.
Video footage of the incident reportedly corroborates this version of events, showing White accelerating to speeds between 15 and 20 miles per hour while her daughter was still holding onto the vehicle.
As a result of the incident, Jasmine White has been charged with two counts of neglect: neglect of a dependent resulting in serious injury and neglect of a dependent resulting in a dangerous situation.
These charges are serious and could lead to significant legal consequences for White, depending on the outcome of her trial.
White made her first court appearance on Monday and entered a plea of not guilty. Her bond was also set at $50,000. Her next court date is scheduled for Sept. 27.
Another case of disturbing child neglect recently occurred in Florida, where a 29-year-old mother is also facing felony charges for child abuse.
Florida woman arrested on child neglect charges
Tasshay Chelsea Mills allegedly put her 1-year-old daughter in danger after getting irrationally angry over a simple accident.
According to court documents, Mills became enraged over spilled shampoo in her car and retaliated by pushing her toddler out of the vehicle onto the street.
The incident took place in Hialeah, Florida, around 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 5, when Mills allegedly reacted with insane anger after the shampoo spilled in the backseat of her car, leading her to hit her child before pushing her out of the car and onto the asphalt.
Shocked witnesses quickly intervened to help the child, who was reportedly bleeding from her head after the fall.
One of the key witnesses described being in a car directly behind Mills when she saw the child being pushed out of the moving vehicle.
Along with her boyfriend, the witness rushed to the child’s aid, removing her from the road to prevent further harm.
The witness expressed her disbelief at the situation, stating that she was “more in shock than anything” and felt immense relief that she and her boyfriend were present to intervene.
After pushing her child out of the vehicle, Mills allegedly drove away erratically before making a U-turn to return to the scene.
Footage from a nearby doorbell camera captured Mills grab the baby out of the witness’s arms and and getting into a heated exchange with her child’s saviors.
In the footage, he witness can be heard telling Mills, “Okay, I’m not giving you this baby,” to which Mills replies, “That is my baby,” before forcibly taking the child and leaving the scene.
The witness, audibly distressed, is heard pleading for help from the police on the phone, saying, “Oh my God! I need you guys to come. She f—ing snatched the baby out of my hands.”
Her boyfriend can be heard in the background, shouting, “Yo! She’s all f—ed up, the baby is all f—ed up. You’re trippin’, bruh.”
After fleeing the scene, Mills was eventually apprehended by the Miramar Police Department. In her statement to law enforcement, Mills denied pushing her daughter out of the vehicle, claiming instead that she had “removed” the child to “clean the seat.”
Despite her defense, the circumstances of the case have led to her being charged with felony child abuse and neglect.
Mills is currently out on a $7,500 bond, but as part of the conditions of her release, she has been ordered to stay away from her child until further legal proceedings are completed.
Mills’ next court appearance is scheduled for October 10, where she is expected to be arraigned on the felony charges stemming from the incident. Her prior criminal record, which includes charges related to theft, assault, and probation violations, will likely play a role in the ongoing case.
