An illegal immigrant, who had already been deported from the United States, was arrested for the murder of a 25-year-old Michigan woman.
Illegal immigrant brutally murders 25-year-old woman on the side of a highway
Brandon Ortiz-Vite, 25, was deported by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in September 2020, but made it back into the United States at an “unknown date” and killed 25-year-old Ruby Garcia with a firearm last week.
On Friday night, Garcia’s body was found on the side of a highway in Grand Rapids, Michigan, riddled with multiple gunshot wounds.
According to Fox 17, her cell phone was located near her body, and police were able to connect her death to Ortiz-Vite through text messages.
The pair were reportedly romantically involved, and planned to get together at Garcia’s home an hour before her body was discovered.
The next day, police found Garcia’s abandoned car nearly an hour away, just outside of South Haven. The vehicle was littered with blood and bullet holes.
Ortiz-Vite was arrested on Sunday morning, after calling 911 on himself to surrender to law enforcement. He was taken into custody at a church, where he was found wearing bloody clothes. Police found the weapon that was used to shoot Garcia on Ortiz-Vite at the time of his arrest.
When interviewed by detectives, the suspect admitted to slaying Garcia while they were having an argument inside her car.
Ortiz-Vite said that he shot her multiple times while she was in the driver’s seat, though it was unclear if the pair were driving or pulled over during the argument.
He got out of the vehicle on the side of the highway and walked towards the driver’s side of the car and shot Garcia one more time to make sure she was dead.
Afterwards, he removed her body from the car and left it on the side of the highway, while he took off with her car.
Ortiz-Vite has been charged with felony murder, open murder, carjacking, carrying a concealed weapon and felony firearm.
At the time of his arrest, he had an outstanding bench warrant from August 2020, after failing to appear in court on two misdemeanor driving offenses.
Illegal immigrant who killed Ruby Garcia had previously been deported
He was arrested by ICE the same month, and deported back to Mexico by an immigration judge in September 2020.
“At an unknown date and location Ortiz-Vite reentered the United States without inspection by an immigration official,” a spokesperson from the department commented.
In Florida, three illegal immigrants from Guatemala were arrested for kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman they snatched from a sidewalk in Palm Beach County, Florida.
Earlier this month, Andres Felipe Morales, Darinel Ordonez Jimenez, and Marcos Felipe Ramirez, who are all undocumented migrants, drove up on a woman walking towards a gas station in a white pick-up truck and grabbed her from behind.
They put her in a chokehold and forced her into the truck, where they all sexually assaulted her in the vehicle.
They drove to two different locations, while repeatedly attacking her, before she was able to get away from them.
All three men were arrested and charged with offenses related to kidnapping and sexual battery.
According to WPTV, Morales was pulled over and ticketed for driving without a license in January, but charges were dropped when he paid a $100 fine and completed a diversion program.
