Theo Lengyel becomes a person of interest

The alleged suspect, Theobald “Theo” Lengyel (also known as “Mylo Stone”), is a 54-year-old saxophone player and founding member of the band Mr. Bungle, according to local station KTVU.

The victim has been identified as his girlfriend, 61-year-old Alice “Alyx” Kamakaokalani Herrmann.

The investigation began when Herrmann, a neuroscientist with a degree from Cal Tech, was reported missing by her family on December 12, 2022.

It was revealed that she was last seen on December 3 in Santa Cruz, California.

Herrmann was at competitive canoe paddling practice with the group she belonged to, Outrigger Santa Cruz, the last time she was seen alive.

Theo Lengyel implicated in girlfriend’s slaying

Her car was found by police in front of Lengyel’s residence in Capitola.

Capitola Police, in coordination with other law enforcement agencies, deemed Lengyel a person of interest due to his lack of cooperation with the search for his missing girlfriend.

As the investigation progressed, it became evident that foul play was involved, resulting in Lengyel’s identification as a suspect, as stated in the Capitola Police Department’s press release.

Human remains were discovered in a wooded area of Tilden Regional Park in Berkeley, but are still pending official identification from the coroner’s office.

The cause of Herrmann’s death has not yet been disclosed by the authorities.

Lengyel was taken into custody by the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office without any resistance and subsequently booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail, where he is being held without bail.

He has been charged with first-degree murder, along with felony burglary and auto theft.

The Capitola Police Department expressed their condolences to the victim’s family and friends in their press release, while acknowledging the diligent work of investigators and their law enforcement partners during the apprehension of Lengyel.

Theo Lengyel ‘s rock career

Lengyel was a founding member of Bay Area rock experimental rock band Mr. Bungle.

He played saxophone alongside Mike Patton, guitarist Trey Spruance and bassist Trevor Dunn, when they created the band in high school.

He was involved with the band’s first two studio albums, 1991’s “Mr. Bungle,” and 1995’s “Disco Volante,” but was axed in 1996.

“We unanimously decided to go on without him because he wasn’t growing with the rest of the band and we were running out of things for him to do,” Dunn said years later.

“He got pissed off and I haven’t heard from him since,” he said, despite still being with the band.
