Authorities are searching for a man who stabbed a woman in the chest at a Chicago Transit Authority train station near the University of Illinois at Chicago campus late Saturday night.

The chilling attack, which left commuters shaken, unfolded at the UIC-Halsted Blue Line stop, just steps from the university grounds.

Authorities said the assault occurred at approximately 11:15 p.m. in the 400 block of South Halsted Street.

A man allegedly pulled a large knife from his backpack and approached a 27-year-old woman sitting on a bench before plunging the blade into her chest.

Police said the suspect quickly fled the scene, walking north on South Morgan Street.

Emergency crews transported the victim to Stroger Hospital, where she was reported to be in good condition.

Officials described the suspect as a Black male standing around six feet tall and weighing between 160 and 180 pounds. Police warned the public not to chase the attacker if spotted.

Surveillance footage obtained by FOX 32 Chicago showed a man matching the description walking on the platform around the time of the incident.

He was wearing white pants, an orange hoodie under a brown jacket, white sneakers, and a pink beanie.

The suspect was seen carrying a gray backpack and holding what appeared to be a knife.

While police continue to investigate that incident, other areas of the city have seen a rise in violent crime.

Last Wednesday night, a man was shot and killed in the Lincoln Park neighborhood, just blocks from his home.

Chicago police said the shooting occurred around 9:20 p.m. in the 800 block of West Lill Avenue.

Officers responding to a call about gunfire found a 28-year-old man lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the chest.

He was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

Authorities later identified the victim as Kevin Patel, 28, of Chicago, originally from the Philadelphia area.

Friends said Patel had been living and working in the city and was returning home when the fatal shooting occurred.

Witnesses told police they saw a man and a woman running from the area moments after the gunfire, but no arrests have been made. Detectives are still searching for a motive.

Residents said the killing has rattled the typically quiet neighborhood.

“Definitely a little bit of system shock, we think generally this a safe and nice neighborhood,” said Christopher, a Lincoln Park resident. “But then to see all the reports of what’s happening in real time… alarming for us.”

Another resident, Joanne Moss, said neighbors are feeling anxious. “Everyone is a little on edge around here early in the morning,” she said.

“It is so hard to pick the bad guys and who they are and how they get to where they are.”

In response, 43rd Ward Alderman Timmy Knudsen sent a community alert, writing, “This is yet another reminder of the work we have to do as a City to combat violence.”

“I’ve asked the 19th district to increase patrols in the area, and as we head into the summer, I will continue to push City Hall for the resources our Ward needs,” he added.

The same weekend, police were also called to a deadly robbery in Chicago’s Little Village neighborhood that left a father and son dead.

The incident unfolded around 5:49 p.m. Saturday when an unidentified suspect entered a jewelry store and stole items before engaging in a violent confrontation outside.

According to police, the suspect fired two shots during the struggle, striking both victims.

A 63-year-old man sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his head, body, and face.

He was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition and later pronounced dead.

A 25-year-old man was also shot several times and died at the same hospital.

The victims were identified as 63-year-old Faustino Alamo and his 25-year-old son, Luis Alamo.

Relatives said the two had operated a jewelry shop in Cicero before opening their Little Village location two years ago.

Surveillance footage from a nearby business captured the chaotic moments before and after the shooting.

A man wearing a Chicago Blackhawks jersey was seen walking toward a white SUV parked across from the jewelry store.

As he approached, he appeared to pull a hat over his head before entering the store.

Within seconds, he stumbled back out as another man chased after him, and the two began struggling in the middle of the street while cars drove past.

A third person then ran from the store moments before a burst of 20 gunshots rang out, sending bystanders scrambling for cover. Police said the shooter fled in the white SUV seen on camera.

No arrests have been made in the case. Cook County Crime Stoppers is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. Those with information can contact authorities anonymously by calling 1-800-535-STOP.
