A Compton beauty supply store became a crime scene on Sunday, after an unruly customer was shot by a female shopper.
A woman fatally shot a man who allegedly groped another shopper and threatened to kill everyone inside, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies said the incident began around 3:21 p.m. when the unidentified man followed a woman into the store and allegedly assaulted her.
Employees immediately intervened and demanded that the man leave, but witnesses told investigators he refused and began shouting at customers while tossing merchandise around the shop.
Witnesses said he appeared to be holding an object they feared was a knife during his outburst.
According to authorities, the man’s behavior escalated as he began shouting death threats, terrifying those nearby.
Amid the chaos, another woman inside the store pulled out a firearm and fired a warning shot, officials said.
When the man turned toward her, she believed she was about to be attacked and fired again, striking him. Deputies said the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office will determine whether the woman who opened fire will face charges.
ABC 7 reported that employees told investigators the incident was recorded by the store’s security cameras.
A video report from CBS News indicated that the man, described as in his early 40’s, may have had gang affiliations and a history of criminal offenses, including assault, robbery, theft, and disturbing the peace. Investigators said the case remains under active investigation.
The fatal shooting in Compton capped a weekend of violent encounters across several U.S. cities.

Authorities said the incident occurred just before 1 p.m., when a suspect tried to rob a man later identified as a retired professional wrestler.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, a man in a dark-colored sedan sped down the street before stopping abruptly near where the victim and his girlfriend were walking.
The masked suspect allegedly exited his car with a handgun and ordered the victim to hand over his Rolex watch. But the would-be robber may have underestimated his target.
The victim reportedly refused to comply, and the two men began to wrestle for control of the firearm.
Witnesses told deputies the victim managed to grab the suspect’s wrist and slam him to the ground.
The girlfriend tossed the gun over a fence as the former wrestler pinned the suspect, refusing to let go until police got to the scene.
Another man who had been in the suspect’s vehicle briefly stepped out but quickly returned to the car and fled the scene, investigators said.
Video footage showcased by KTLA shows deputies arresting the downed suspect and retrieving the weapon used in the attempted robbery.
Witnesses said the suspect appeared injured, with the victim reportedly dislocating the man’s arm while restraining him.
Authorities did not immediately release the names of the suspects involved. The investigation remains ongoing.
Far from Los Angeles, another violent encounter unfolded in Chicago, where prosecutors say a dispute over a cellphone recording led to gunfire.
According to CWB Chicago, a 41-year-old man had just returned home from his construction job and was sitting in his car texting a coworker.
Moments later, another man riding a scooter through the parking lot lost control, crashed, and fell to the ground.
The man inside the car began recording a short video of the incident with his phone, apparently capturing the rider’s fall.
Prosecutors said the scooter rider, later identified as 40-year-old Michael J. Jones, was enraged when he realized he was being filmed.
Jones allegedly parked his scooter, walked away, and returned with a firearm.
Surveillance footage reportedly shows him sidling up to the driver’s side of the car, firing two rounds toward the seated man’s lap, then circling to the back of the vehicle to fire several more shots before walking away.
Despite being hit multiple times, the victim managed to return fire from inside his vehicle and again after stepping out. Police said Jones fled the scene on foot.
Responding officers later found the victim on the pavement beside his car, suffering from gunshot wounds to his thigh, calf, and groin. He was taken to a nearby hospital in serious condition.
Detectives said Jones was identified through a confidential informant who knew him and was aware of his participation in the crime.
Additional surveillance footage reportedly captured Jones walking toward his nearby residence shortly after the shooting.
When officers arrested Jones days later, they allegedly found a loaded handgun in his cargo pants pocket.
Prosecutors said Jones told police he carried the weapon for protection because he lived in a dangerous neighborhood.
Jones was held in custody on charges of aggravated battery by discharging a firearm and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Court documents reviewed by prosecutors revealed Jones has a prior felony conviction for unlawful possession of a gun dating back to 2016.
