A Texas teenager is accused of gunning down a woman moments after she helped a friend return from chemotherapy, turning a routine ride into a fatal ambush.

Houston police say 18-year-old Darius Dewayne Hall now faces a capital murder charge after the shooting death of Marietta Allison outside an apartment complex.

Investigators say the attack unfolded Friday after Allison drove her friend Cassie Daniel home following cancer treatment.

Authorities say Allison dropped Daniel off at the apartment where she had been staying during treatment.

Police say Allison then went to park the vehicle before walking back toward the residence.

Daniel described the moment the situation turned violent. She reported hearing a gunshot but could not immediately locate her friend.

Daniel later learned Allison had been shot in the neck while returning from the parking area.

First responders arrived soon after and transported Allison to a hospital. Authorities confirmed she died from her injuries.

Daniel recounted what investigators believe happened during the attack.

“The man took her purse, stole my car key and took the car,” Daniel explained.

She said she provided officers with key information that helped identify the suspect.

Police launched a search for the suspect shortly after the shooting. Investigators tracked Hall as he attempted to evade officers.

Authorities say the suspect fled before barricading himself inside an empty apartment.

SWAT teams joined the operation to bring the situation under control. Officers eventually took Hall into custody without further incident. Police say the suspect now faces multiple charges tied to the case.

Court records show Hall is charged with capital murder, evading arrest and tampering with physical evidence. He is currently being held in the Harris County Jail.

Daniel shared additional details about what investigators found after the arrest. She said authorities recovered two firearms inside her vehicle.

Investigators also located a shell casing that may help connect the weapon to the crime through ballistic testing. Daniel said Hall claimed the weapons did not belong to him.

She also stated she was told the suspect had picked up a 16-year-old prostitute before the shooting. Authorities have not released further details about that claim.

Authorities have not released additional information about a possible motive beyond the robbery.

Another case in Massachusetts also involves a teenager charged in a deadly attack with no apparent connection to the victim.

Prosecutors say 18-year-old Anthony DeMayo is accused of killing 68-year-old Janet Swallow inside her Danvers home.

“What we can say and what we believe at this point is this was random. There was no connection between the defendant and the resident who was the victim here, Ms. Swallow,” District Attorney Paul Tucker stated during a press briefing.

Investigators first encountered DeMayo earlier that day after a 911 call reported a man walking along a road carrying a knife.

“He was kind of like taking the knife and gliding it across, and he was kind of just like practicing, it looked like, on them,” witness Ashley O’Brian said.

Police say officers found him behaving erratically with what appeared to be blood on the weapon. Authorities transported DeMayo to Salem Hospital for evaluation.

As investigators followed up on the incident, evidence led them to a residence in Danvers.

Officers conducted a welfare check and found Swallow dead inside her home. Authorities reported injuries consistent with a homicide.

Police formally charged DeMayo while he remained at the hospital. He later appeared in court and pleaded not guilty. A judge ordered him held without bail.

According to court documents, the suspect confessed, “that he planned on committing this act for a long time, and wanted to kill someone for a long time.”

Court officials also directed that he undergo further evaluation at Bridgewater State Hospital.

A pretrial hearing has been scheduled as the case moves forward.

Another violent case in Florida centers on a teenager accused of a brutal assault following a car theft.

Authorities say 18-year-old Jamarcus Giscombe is charged after allegedly attacking a panhandler who refused his demands.

Investigators say Giscombe picked up the woman at a street median in Orlando.

Police allege he demanded a sexual act before the situation escalated into violence. Authorities say the victim was beaten repeatedly after refusing.

The woman managed to escape the vehicle and ran toward a nearby store. She sought help from a bystander while calling for emergency assistance.

Investigators linked the case to a stolen vehicle report filed earlier the same day.

Witnesses described hearing a crash and seeing a car speed away from a residential area.

“All I heard was a big boom, so I peeked out my window, and I seen somebody pulling off,” a witness told local media. “They hit the white car, and then they made a left. … I said, ‘What’s going on?’ I didn’t know. And then he swerved off, and then I looked, and then I seen all these women and all these kids come out screaming, ‘He stole my car.’”

Deputies later located the stolen vehicle about a mile from where the assault occurred.

Investigators tied Giscombe to the car using a distinctive steering wheel cover and evidence recovered inside.

Police say the suspect provided a different version of events during questioning. Authorities report he claimed the victim initiated the encounter.

Investigators charged Giscombe with sexual battery with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment, aggravated battery causing great bodily harm and grand theft of a motor vehicle.

He is being held without bail as the case proceeds.
