A DoorDash delivery driver stumbled onto a murder scene at a North Carolina apartment after noticing a foul odor and being told a dead woman was hidden inside.

Authorities say the shocking discovery led to the arrest of a 23-year-old suspect now charged with first-degree murder.

Investigators with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department say the victim, 26-year-old Evelin Enamorado-Cisnado, was found concealed inside a closet and partially covered with towels.

Officers responded to the apartment complex last Tuesday around 4:30 p.m. for a welfare check after the delivery driver alerted authorities.

Court documents indicate the driver became suspicious after detecting a strong odor coming from inside the residence.

Investigators say someone inside the apartment told the driver there was a dead woman in the unit.

Authorities have not confirmed the identity of the person who made that statement.

Police entered the residence and discovered Enamorado-Cisnado’s body hidden behind a door inside a closet.

Officials say the condition of the scene indicated the victim had been dead for some time.

Detectives identified the suspect as 23-year-old Lhis Brito-Costa.

Investigators say the suspect and victim had been involved in a relationship while both worked at Wellington Regional Medical Center.

Authorities allege the relationship became violent after Brito-Costa learned the victim was involved with another person.

Court filings accuse Brito-Costa of shooting Enamorado-Cisnado.

An arrest warrant states the suspect “unlawfully, willfully, and feloniously did of malice aforethought kill and murder” the victim.

Family members reacted with grief and anger after learning details of the case.

“It hurts to think how that wretched woman could heartlessly take her life, simply because my niece no longer wanted to be with her,” a relative wrote in a public message.

Investigators believe the killing occurred before the body was hidden inside the apartment.

Authorities say the suspect attempted to conceal the remains using towels and positioning the body behind a door.

Police arrested Brito-Costa following the discovery. A judge ordered the suspect held without bond.

Court records show the case is scheduled to return to court on April 2.

The discovery shocked residents at the apartment complex. Investigators say the delivery driver’s actions played a key role in bringing the case to light.

Relatives of the victim credited the driver for noticing something was wrong.

Another murder investigation in Massachusetts also revealed a body hidden in a concealed location.

Authorities say a woman missing for more than a year was found buried beneath a garage floor. Prosecutors identified the suspect as 40-year-old Shawn Sullivan.

Investigators say the remains were discovered under a two-car garage at a home in Tyngsborough.

Officials are working to confirm the identity of the victim but believe the body belongs to 43-year-old Jill Kloppenburg.

Kloppenburg disappeared in January 2025 after leaving her home in Lowell. Her phone activity stopped nearly two weeks later.

Authorities say a break in the case came when a friend of Sullivan contacted police.

The tipster told investigators the suspect admitted to killing a woman named Jill.

Detectives used missing persons records to connect the statement to Kloppenburg.

Investigators executed a search at a property previously linked to Sullivan. Ground-penetrating radar revealed an area beneath the garage that appeared disturbed.

Authorities uncovered a body wrapped in plastic after digging through a section of flooring. Officials say the grave measured several feet in length.

A medical examiner is working to confirm the identity and determine the cause of death.

Prosecutors charged Sullivan with murder along with additional counts tied to assault and improper disposal of human remains. He is scheduled to be arraigned in court.

Another case in Alabama uncovered a triple homicide involving a missing mother and her two children.

Authorities say the victims were found buried in a wooded area after investigators located a property connected to the suspect.

Officials identified the suspect as 31-year-old Hector Gamaliel Argueta-Guerra.

Prosecutors added three counts of first-degree murder after the bodies were recovered.

Investigators say the victims, Aurelia Choc Cac, 40, her 17-year-old daughter and her 2-year-old son, had been missing since late January.

Authorities reported signs of a violent struggle inside the family’s home. Investigators later located the victims buried in what officials described as a clandestine grave.

Court documents indicate the victims suffered injuries from a sharp-edged weapon. Officials say the child sustained severe trauma to the head.

Authorities believe the suspect transported the bodies before burying them.

The sheriff described the suspect in stark terms during a press briefing.

“He’s an evil person who will face his judgment soon,” the sheriff stated.

Prosecutors indicated they intend to seek the death penalty in the case.

Investigators are still working to formally identify the remains.

Another homicide investigation in Indiana centers on a violent attack involving an ax.

Authorities say 45-year-old Travis Wolfe is accused of killing his girlfriend following an argument outside her home.

Investigators identified the victim as 51-year-old Kimberly Stewart. Police say the couple had a history of arguments leading up to the incident. Witnesses described Wolfe as erratic in the days before the killing.

Authorities say a friend discovered Stewart’s body outside her residence after becoming concerned when she failed to respond to messages.

Investigators say the body was found near a fence and an outdoor spa area. Officers responded to the scene after receiving a report of an unresponsive woman. Authorities determined the victim died from blunt force trauma.

Detectives developed Wolfe as a suspect based on witness accounts and evidence collected at the scene.

A witness reported seeing a man swinging an object near where the victim was later found. Investigators say the suspect was also heard yelling at a dog during the incident.

Police later located Wolfe and took him into custody. Authorities say he denied attacking Stewart with an ax.

Investigators continued building the case through witness statements and forensic evidence.

Prosecutors charged Wolfe with murder along with unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.
