Two separate suspects are facing serious criminal charges in bizarre, animal-related incidents that escalated into violence, leaving authorities stunned.
Chicken crossing the road ends in criminal charges
In Key West, Florida, a woman allegedly turned a mundane traffic moment into a criminal assault involving bear spray, reportedly over a chicken.
According to an arrest report obtained by WPLG-TV, 38-year-old Cynthia Diaz Sosa told law enforcement that she had stopped her vehicle on Petronia Street the evening of July 9 because she was “waiting to let a chicken cross the road.”
But what happened next was anything but a punchline. Sosa reportedly told investigators that while she was stopped, another driver behind her began honking, then overtook her car and struck the chicken, killing it.

Fueled by finger-licking rage, Sosa allegedly decided to follow the driver, with WPLG reporting that Sosa admitted to police she wanted to “teach her a lesson.”
That driver, according to Law & Crime, later told police she had simply been heading to pick up her child from daycare when Sosa’s vehicle abruptly cut her off.
The confrontation escalated further when both vehicles stopped near the intersection of Emma and Olivia Streets.
At that point, Sosa reportedly approached the other woman’s vehicle, yanked open the door, and sprayed the woman with bear spray, according to the report. A second woman inside the vehicle was also sprayed.
First responders with the Key West Fire Department treated both victims on the scene.
Officers later tracked down Sosa and placed her under arrest. She is now facing two counts of aggravated battery and one count of burglary with assault or battery.
As of Tuesday, she did not appear on the list of active inmates, according to WPLG. Her arraignment is scheduled for July 24.
Man unleashes racoon as revenge
While Florida authorities dealt with that unusual road-rage encounter, another animal-related incident unfolded hundreds of miles away in Kentucky — this time involving a raccoon, a local business, and a repeat offender already known for bizarre behavior involving a mule.
On June 6 at 9:18 p.m., the Murray Police Department received a complaint that a man had intentionally unleashed a raccoon inside a business.

The animal went on to bite a person inside before man who brought it inside fled the scene.
The suspect, identified as 40-year-old Jonathan Mason of Murray, had allegedly been banned from the property prior to the incident, police said in a press release.
Officers managed to locate Mason later that evening as he was operating a vehicle.
When they attempted to conduct a traffic stop, Mason refused to roll down his windows or exit the car, according to authorities.
Officers were eventually forced to remove him physically after he allegedly resisted.
Mason was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, third-degree trespassing, resisting arrest, and failure to maintain required insurance. Jail records confirm the charges.
But this wasn’t Mason’s first run-in with police involving animals.
Man faces criminal charges for incident with mule
In December 2024, Murray police responded to a separate incident involving Mason and a mule.
Just after 9 p.m. on December 7, officers were called to a local bar to deal with an “unruly individual.”
According to a department statement, officers found Mason outside the business, visibly intoxicated.
He had reportedly arrived on a mule and refused to comply with commands from law enforcement.
“Mason had ridden a mule to the establishment, and he refused to stop when ordered to by the officer,” the statement read.
“As the officer attempted to place Mason under arrest, Mason resisted.”
Witnesses also told officers that Mason had been seen earlier at another location whipping the mule an “unnecessary amount” of times.
That arrest landed Mason in the Calloway County Jail on multiple charges, including second-degree disorderly conduct, third-degree criminal trespassing, alcohol intoxication in a public place, and second-degree cruelty to animals.
But just two days later, Mason was back in trouble. On December 9, police were dispatched to the area where the mule had been stabled following reports of an intoxicated man riding the animal down a local road.
Officers located Mason once again riding the same mule. He allegedly refused to stop and instead fled on the animal down the roadway.
Eventually, police apprehended him and took him into custody. He was booked into the Calloway County Jail and hit with charges of third-degree fleeing or evading police and second-degree cruelty to animals.
It’s unclear if Mason still has access to the mule following the latest charges. His current bond and court status were not immediately available.
