An unhinged woman desperate to get hitched has been accused of secretly marrying her ex-boyfriend without his consent or knowledge.

Unhinged woman marries ex without telling him

36-year-old Kristin Marie Spearman was recently arrested and charged with third-degree felony stalking, according to an announcement by the Beverly Hills, Texas, Police Department.

The department’s investigation kicked off on June 13, 2025, when the victim, a 42-year-old man, called authorities to report an unusual and disturbing series of events.

He explained that upon returning home after being out all day, he discovered a package left on his property.

Inside the package were a collection of items that shocked him, including a gift bag from Bath & Body Works filled with various products and two particularly startling documents.

According to police, “One was a picture of his ex-girlfriend and arrestee, 36-year-old Kristin Marie Spearman of Waco, holding what appears to be a marriage license showing them married and officiated by a local reverend.”

As if that weren’t horrifying enough, there was a copy of the marriage certificate filed with the county clerk’s office.

Victim had called off his engagement to unhinged woman

The man gave cops details about his previous relationship with Spearman, revealing that the two had initially intended to marry and had even applied for a marriage license.

However, after an argument, he decided to call off the relationship and told Spearman he no longer wanted to be together as a couple.

Authorities claim Spearman managed to arrange for her ex-boyfriend’s name to appear on a marriage certificate without his participation.

Police noted, “It was found during a follow-up investigation with the reverend that Kristin Spearman pursuant to the scheme of obtaining a marriage certificate, convinced the reverend to certify the victim and Kristin in the Holy Union of Matrimony without the knowledge of the victim and his required presence.”

Following this, the unhinged woman allegedly took the license to the county clerk’s office and filed it as a valid marriage certificate.

The victim has been left trying to resolve this unexpected and unauthorized marriage.
Beverly Hills Chief of Police Kory Martin shared his perspective on the strange situation with the local news outlet KWKT.

“I don’t think in 23 years I’ve never heard of anybody who managed somehow to get married to someone who wasn’t present for a ceremony,” he commented.

“I’ve talked to the victim and he’s going through a significant process to try to fix this at this point, so that’s a whole [different] situation.”

Law enforcement officials made it clear that they are withholding information about the reverend involved to prevent external interference with the ongoing investigation.

Police ultimately located Spearman at her residence and led her to the McLennan County Jail for processing. She has since been released from custody.

Australian finds out “prank” marriage was a residency scam

Meanwhile, a court case in Australia has drawn international attention for its similarly unusual circumstances.

A Melbourne woman succeeded in annulling her marriage after she discovered that what she believed to be a staged wedding for a social media “prank” was actually a legally binding ceremony.

The startling sequence of events first unfolded in September 2023 when the woman met her partner on an online dating platform.

The man, described as a social media influencer, convinced the woman to participate in a ceremony under the pretense that it would boost his content and online presence.

“When I got there, and I didn’t see anybody in white, I asked him, ‘What’s happening?’ And he pulled me aside, and he told me that he’s organizing a prank wedding for his social media, to be precise, Instagram,” she recounted.

She explained that she had only gone along with it because she believed the ceremony lacked legal standing, particularly as no notice of intended marriage had been filed.

Despite her initial concerns, the woman agreed, thinking it was harmless content creation. However, two months later, her partner’s true motivations became clear.

He requested that she add him as a dependent in her Australian permanent residency application.

When she refused on the belief they were not actually married, he revealed the ceremony had been legally valid.

After looking into the matter, the woman discovered a properly filed notice of intended marriage, submitted a month before their engagement, bearing a signature she claimed did not match her own.

The man, in his deposition, alleged that the woman had willingly agreed to the ceremony, calling it an “intimate” event between the two.

However, the Melbourne judge reviewing the case sided with the woman.

The judge noted her testimony established she had been “mistaken about the nature of the ceremony performed” and believed she was merely participating in a staged event for social media purposes.

“She called the event ‘a prank.’ It made perfect sense for her to adopt the persona of a bride in all things at the impugned ceremony so as to enhance the credibility of the video depicting a legally valid marriage,” the judgement stated.

The court’s decision granted an annulment in October 2024, making an official declaration that the marriage was invalid due to the lack of true consent.
