A female traveler is in cuffs after assaulting a child who called her “Miss Piggy” right before their flight was about to take off.
Woman beats down boy who referred to her as “Miss Piggy”
The altercation reportedly took place Monday aboard an Allegiant Air flight leaving Florida’s Sanford-Orlando International Airport, with the plane bound for Maryland.
Kristy Crampton, identified by law enforcement as the individual taken into custody, was said to be part of a group returning from a vacation at Disney World.
Police allege that she struck a child who had referred to her as “fat” and likened her to the fictional Muppets character “Miss Piggy.”
The incident reportedly occurred just before takeoff. Arrest documents state that Crampton began striking the child after he allegedly commented on her size and suggested she was too “fat” for her seat. Witness accounts described the confrontation as violent.
One passenger on board told officers that they witnessed Crampton “hitting [the victim] with her fist and then a water bottle.”
The same witness added, “He then said that she ‘slammed’ his head into the airplane window.”
Another person who observed the episode said the boy had not misbehaved and criticized Crampton’s actions as abusive.
“The woman was not correcting, she was abusing [redacted], whipping the s*** out of the kid,” that witness stated.
Flight attendants, according to the report, were unaware of the alleged assault during the flight.
Investigators also confirmed that there was no indication that alcohol or drugs played a role.
Law enforcement spoke with a man identified as Jeffrey Crampton, who reportedly explained that the child in question had been exhibiting problematic behavior both during the trip and while at Disney.
‘Miss Piggy’ explains her heinous actions
The aircraft’s pilot notified authorities, prompting officers to meet the plane at the gate. Crampton was taken into custody at that time.
When interviewed by police, Crampton allegedly said the child was “very rude” and “disrespectful” throughout their time at the theme park.
She admitted to taking the child’s phone and “smacking” him after he pushed her arm off the armrest.
“He pushed her arm off of the armrest twice before she responded by smacking him,” the report quotes her as saying.
The child involved in the incident gave his own account, stating that the conflict began after he refused to download Uber on his phone. When asked why the app needed to be installed while still in flight, an argument ensued.
The boy admitted to pushing Crampton’s arm off the armrest, claiming she was taking up excessive space.
“That’s when she smacked him in the face,” he told officers, as outlined in the affidavit.
Investigators concluded that Crampton’s actions exceeded normal disciplinary measures.
“It was determined that Kristy went beyond typical disciplinary actions with multiple strikes to the head as well as pushing [his] head into the window,” the report said.
She was subsequently arrested for domestic violence and child abuse. Following her detention, she was taken to the Seminole County Jail and handed over to corrections staff.
Local outlet WFTV reported that Crampton was charged with felony child abuse. She appeared in court on Tuesday and was granted release after posting a $10,000 bond. She is scheduled to be arraigned on July 11.
The judge issued an order preventing any further contact between Crampton and the child. Authorities have not clarified the nature of their relationship.
Because the incident took place aboard an aircraft, the FBI was also notified.
Texas man assaults victim over rude comment
In a separate case, a man from Texas is facing several charges after he allegedly attacked another man with a brain injury, reportedly in response to an offensive remark made about a woman.
According to court filings, 20-year-old Tristian Thomas remains held at McLennan County Jail on a $26,000 bond.
Charges against him include assault causing injury to a disabled individual, burglary, obstruction, and making threats toward law enforcement.
Details obtained by local affiliate KWTX indicate that the attack took place outside of Waco on May 18.
Authorities believe Thomas punched the victim, slammed him to the ground, and stomped on him. The victim was reportedly left with a broken ankle and facial injuries, including trauma to his left cheek and ear.
Due to a pre-existing brain injury, the victim claimed no memory of the attack. However, police said video evidence captured the incident, and Thomas was later identified.
Investigators allege that Thomas also attempted to intimidate a witness who saw the attack. He was arrested later that same day during a traffic stop.
While in the back of the police vehicle, Thomas allegedly threatened officers, stating: “Have fun dying. I’m gonna make sure your a— gets shot, motherf—er.”
During a post-Miranda interview, Thomas admitted to the assault, saying the altercation stemmed from a crude remark made by the victim about a woman.
