A Kentucky nurse was allegedly attacked a hospital patient out of frustration over delays in her discharge process.

Kentucky nurse attacked by enraged patient

Authorities say 35-year-old Mykeisha Johnson, a patient at the University of Louisville Hospital, assaulted a nurse after becoming increasingly angry about the time it was taking to be discharged.

Police documents reviewed by WDRB describe how Johnson allegedly launched the attack when a nurse passed by her room during routine rounds.

Surveillance footage reportedly shows Johnson grabbing the nurse by the neck, shoving her to the ground, and punching her in the face multiple times before hospital staff intervened and restrained her.

Although Johnson later admitted the nurse had no role in her extended wait, she allegedly told officers the nurse “was the first person available.”

The assaulted nurse was treated in the emergency room for injuries to her neck, head, leg, abdomen, and shoulder.

According to the affidavit, she did not lose consciousness but described feeling “in shock and didn’t remember everything.”

“UofL Health does not tolerate any violence or abuse against its staff, patients, or visitors,” the hospital said in a statement.

“LMPD has made an arrest and is handling the investigation. Our employee was treated and released.”

Johnson faces charges of assaulting a healthcare provider, menacing, and wanton endangerment.

The latter charge was added during a court hearing on Monday. She is currently being held on $10,000 bond in the Jefferson County Jail.

Hospital shooter takes hostages

In a separate case out of Pennsylvania, a hospital shooting earlier this year ended in multiple casualties, including the death of a police officer.

On a Saturday morning in February, 49-year-old Diogenes Archangel-Ortiz allegedly entered UPMC Memorial Hospital around 10:45 a.m. and opened fire with a semi-automatic firearm.

According to York County District Attorney Tim Barker, Ortiz shot six people, including Officer Andrew Duarte, 30, of West York Borough, who was killed.

Other victims reportedly included a nurse, a custodian, a doctor, and another officer.

Ortiz was shot and killed by law enforcement responding to the active shooter situation.

The gunman reportedly moved quickly toward the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit when he began his attack. Officials have not confirmed a motive behind the shooting.

In a statement issued later that evening, UPMC noted that no patients were harmed and that the injured victims were in stable condition.

Investigators shared that one doctor suffered a graze wound, while both the nurse and custodian sustained more serious injuries.

Duarte was reportedly among the first responders to arrive at the hospital.

Records obtained by Local21News indicate that Ortiz had a history of run-ins with the law in York County.

His latest charge came in February for driving with a suspended license. Previous offenses include harassment and violating a protection order in 2016.

Nurse who attacked babies slapped with more charges

In Virginia, a nurse formerly employed in a neonatal intensive care unit is facing new legal troubles related to infant abuse.

Erin Strotman, 26, was initially arrested last year and charged with felony child abuse and malicious wounding after a 5-month-old patient was found with a fractured leg.

Court documents state that surveillance footage from November 2024 allegedly shows Strotman handling the infant, referred to as Y.H., by the legs and bending them backward so the child’s feet touched his head.

A grand jury has now indicted Strotman on six additional charges, which include four counts of child abuse and two more of malicious wounding.

The new allegations involve two other babies, identified in court records as L.M.-B. and A.V.

Prosecutors are currently reviewing injuries sustained by a total of seven infants who were in the care of Henrico Doctors’ Hospital in Richmond during 2023 and 2024. However, the current charges are only linked to incidents from last year.

Henrico County Commonwealth’s Attorney Shannon Taylor confirmed that one of the infants cited in the new indictment had not been part of the original list of affected babies, WRIC reported.

Strotman, who was released on a $25,000 bond in March, is due back in court on March 20.
