A Texas high school student died in his twin bother’s arms at a track meet after being stabbed by a fellow teenage student.

High school student stabbed

17-year-old Austin Metcalf, a high-achieving student athlete, tragically lost his life after a dispute over seating arrangements at the Wednesday morning sporting event.

The boy’s father, Jeff Metcalf, described his son as a standout student and athlete.

Austin maintained a 4.0 GPA and was honored as the Most Valuable Player of the Memorial High School football team within the Frisco Independent School District, and was likely headed to the NCAA before becoming a victim of violent crime.

According to Metcalf, his son did not know the alleged attacker, who attended a different high school, before the confrontation at Kuykendall Stadium, which took place around 10 a.m.

Hunter Metcalf, Austin’s identical twin, was present during the tragic incident and quickly contacted their parents. By the time they arrived, Austin was no longer breathing.

Father of student stabbed at track meet speaks out

“They were twins, identical twins, and his brother was holding on to him, trying to make it stop bleeding, and he died in his brother’s arms,” Jeff Metcalf stated.

“I rushed up there and I saw him on the gurney and I could tell — they said he wasn’t breathing,” he continued. “I could see all the blood, and I saw where the wound was, and I was very concerned, so I had to find his brother, and we rushed to the hospital.”

Jeff said that the family prayed for Austin, but acknowledged that the end to his short life was “God’s plan.”

“I don’t understand it, but they weren’t able to save him,” the shocked father added. “This is murder.”

Following the violent event, school officials immediately shut down the track meet, secured the stadium, and arranged for students to return to their respective schools.

“I tried to whip around as fast as I could,” Hunter Metcalf recalled. “I looked at my brother and I’m not going to talk about the rest. I tried to help him.”

The Metcalf family shared a strong bond through their regular hunting trips together.

Metcalf spoke of his son’s character, saying, “He was on the right track. He was loved by many. He was a leader.”

Authorities identified the suspect as 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony, a senior at Centennial High School.

He has been charged with murder by Frisco police and remains in custody at Frisco City Jail.

Officials anticipate his transfer to Collin County Jail, and as of now, no bond has been set.

Dad of stabbed student forgives suspect

The grieving father also questioned Anthony’s upbringing, wondering, “I’m not trying to judge, but what kind of parents did this child have? What was he taught? He brought a knife to a track meet and he murdered my son by stabbing him in the heart.”

Despite his overwhelming grief, Jeff Metcalf acknowledged the hardship that Anthony’s family will also endure.

“I feel for [the suspect’s] family because now their son will end up in prison and learn that he killed someone, and he devastated and killed my son who I can never get back. It’s unfortunate for everyone involved,” he said.

Jeff also has forgiven Anthony for ending his son’s life and has leaned into his faith as solace.

“You know what, I already forgive this person. Already. God takes care of things. God is going to take care of me. God is going to take care of my family,” he stated.

The Frisco Police Department released a statement in response to the shocking event.

“The Frisco Police Department grieves with all those affected by this devastating loss and extends its deepest condolences to the victim’s family, students, and staff who are experiencing unimaginable pain,” the department said.

The department is collaborating with the Frisco Independent School District and will continue to provide any support they need during this incredibly difficult time.”

Substitute teacher hires student hitman to kill husband

Meanwhile, in an unrelated case, an Ohio substitute teacher has been arrested in connection with an alleged murder-for-hire plot targeting her estranged husband.

Authorities apprehended 44-year-old Stephanie Demetrius last week on a felony charge of conspiracy to commit a crime.

Court records obtained by WSYX, an ABC affiliate in Columbus, indicate that Demetrius allegedly approached an unidentified student at the Academy for Urban Scholars High School on March 26 with an offer of $2,000 to kill her husband.

According to investigators, Demetrius provided the student with an initial cash payment of $250.

Authorities later obtained a recording in which she allegedly reassured the would-be student hitman that the remainder of the money was forthcoming.

The Columbus Dispatch detailed further allegations, stating that Demetrius supplied the student with key details regarding her husband’s and children’s schedules, specifying when the house would be empty.

She allegedly proposed that the crime be committed at the home, telling the student that her husband worked remotely, making it an optimal location.

When questioned about the possibility of neighbors overhearing gunfire, she reportedly dismissed concerns, allegedly stating that “they don’t care about the neighbors.”

Demetrius and her husband initially filed for divorce in 2017 before later withdrawing the petition.

However, in April 2024, she filed for divorce again in Franklin County Domestic Relations Court.

Demetrius appeared in Franklin County Municipal Court, where she was ordered to remain in custody on a $150,000 bond.

The judge also prohibited her from making any contact with her husband.

Her next court appearance is scheduled for April 11 for a preliminary hearing.
